August 28, 2007
Present: TMG members: Richard Canale, Laura Cecere, Elaine Dratch, Jerry VanHook,
Gail Wagner, and Susan Yanofsky
The Traffic Mitigation Group (TMG) met on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 9:30 AM in
Room 111 of the Town Office Building. The following summarizes the discussion.
Hartwell Ave
➢ On August 27, the Selectmen voted to approve the final Hartwell Avenue
drawings to add striping and signage creating a bicycle lane.
➢ The success of the vote was attributed to the cross representation orchestrated by
TMG and meetings with stakeholders including the Hartwell businesses.
Walkable Communities Event
➢ Event is scheduled for Wed. Sept 26, 8:30 AM to 10:3 0AM, Cary Library.
➢ Flyers have been sent to various town committees to recruit participants and Gail
will submit newspaper announcements.
Traffic Mitigation Bylaws — Planning Document
➢ Planning Board has decided to address Traffic Mitigation Bylaws and may
present at Town Meeting next spring.
➢ Updating the town's parking regulations is part of this process. Selectmen
approval is required for changes in parking regulations.
➢ New part -time Planning Dept staff member has been hired.
Updates
Waltham Development
➢ The mayor of Waltham wants Route 128 Waltham interchanges re -done.
➢ Waltham has suggested moving two rail stations serviced by the Fitchburg line to
new Waltham locations
Lexington School Bus Polio
➢ The School Dept. has created a new school transportation coordinator position.
This individual will be invited to a future TMG meeting.
➢ It is anticipated that the increased school bus fees will create added vehicular
traffic around Lexington schools.
Marrett Road (kWaltham Street Intersection
➢ This intersection is part of ongoing negotiations with Shire Pharmaceuticals.
Roadway Standards Committee
➢ Richard raised the issue of creating a roadway standards committee to develop
town policies for such issues as speed humps.
