The Traffic Mitigation Group (TMG) met on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at 9:3 0 AM in
Room 111 of the Town Office Building. The following summarizes the discussion.
Hartwell Ave
➢ Sam Offeiaddo of BSC Group provided an electronic simulation of traffic flow on
Hartwell Ave during commuter hours. Questions were asked and discussed.
➢ If Hartwell was stripped as one lane in each direction, some delay time for those
existing businesses will result. However, private Police details at two businesses
create periodic breaks in traffic that facilitate turns onto Hartwell Ave.
➢ Due to Safety issues, the bicycle /pedestrian- activated light at the bike path cannot
be programmed for a recurring stop cycle to ensure traffic breaks.
➢ Bicycle safety can be maintained on Hartwell Ave with the addition of pavement
markings, stripping and signage.
➢ Potential development on Hartwell Ave will be advanced by the proposed plan,
which recognizes bicycles as part of the commuter mix.
➢ TMG voting members passed unanimously the motion to have BSC finalize plans
for Hartwell Ave creating a shoulder for bicyclists through pavement markings,
stripping and signage.
➢ Plans must be presented to the Board of Selectmen for final approval.

development off Route 117 in Waltham. Bedford will be consulted. The letter
will be submitted to the Selectmen.

population and land use. Susan and the Planning Dept will be asked to review for
accuracy.
