The idea presented of changing the sidewalk has been approved by the town engineering department. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to rework sidewalk to include a pitch in order to eliminate current step. Certificate No. 2011C-13 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle and Associate Commissioner Carl Oldenburg 46 Bedford Street map 57 lot 14A: Jeff Kwass, Viewpoint Signs, representing, Supercuts, presented a permit ready drawing of the wall sign. The commission felt that the proposed height of the letters was too big for that space. The applicant agreed to reduce the height by approximately ½ a foot. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for a wall sign. Certificate No. 2011C-14 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle and Associate Commissioner Carl Oldenburg 1994 Massachusetts Avenue : map 48 lot 99Karl Damitz, Architect, representing, Charles and Dianne Carl, presented photographs of the existing house, existing and proposed elevations of the rear and side of house, exterior details of proposed windows. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for enlarging windows and altering roof overhang above garage addition. Certificate No. 2011C-15 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle and Associate Commissioner Carl Oldenburg 1666 Massachusetts Avenue map 48 lot 30A: Sharon Spaulding, Spaulding Management Corporation, representing, Lexx Restaurant, presented photographs of the existing and proposed location of the side door. The plan is to reuse the existing door and move it over two bays to the left. If a new door is needed then they will present a cut sheet of the new door. Ms. Spaulding also presented an exterior menu board however, the commission would like additional information for example what lighting will be used. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to move the existing side door two bays to the left. Certificate No. 2011C-16 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle and Associate Commissioner Carl Oldenburg 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 e-mail acasparius@lexingtonma.gov AGENDA FOR THURSDAY, April 7, 2011 1038 Massachusetts Avenue map 30 lot 74: Ann and Bill Fisher presented color samples for their house. The commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for color change. Certificate No. 2011C-20 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle and Associate Commissioner Carl Oldenburg CONTINUED HEARINGS 1690 Massachusetts Avenue map 48 lot 31: Greg Goddfrey, Panera Bread, presented new plans for the front and rear of building, and new plans for signage. The window to the right of the front door will need to match the Nana Wall system for the left of the door otherwise it will not look right. The signage was also discussed Panera did reduce the size of the east façade sign and took out the request for a blade sign. There was still concern from the commission about the east façade sign being too much advertising in addition to the three awnings on that side. The commission wants to see a full scale mock up of the signs, and the applicant will get in touch when that has been arranged. The commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for the front center entrance, nana walls, side patio, and rear entrance changes. Certificate No. 2011C-18 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle and Associate Commissioner Carl Oldenburg Massachusetts Avenue , Dawn McKenna, Lexington Tourism Committee, presented a color print of the banner design, a sheet with size of banners, how long they will be hanging, and where they are to be hung. Mrs. McKenna also presented a calendar of planned events for Revolutionary Revelry, which is the event these banners are supporting. The commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness to allow 10 banners to be hung along Massachusetts Avenue between Woburn and Meriam Street for the entire month of May. Certificate No. 2011C-19 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle and Associate Commissioner Carl Oldenburg 1332 Massachusetts Avenue map 39 Lot 5: Susan Bennett, Lexington Historical Society, presented a photograph showing the existing free standing sign at 1332 Massachusetts Avenue. The new wall and freestanding signs are going to be the exact same as the signs that were approved for 36 Hancock Street so she also presented detailed drawings and a photograph of those freestanding and wall signs. Ms. Bennett, also presented copies of the labels of the house paint colors selected. The paving material was also discussed; Ms. Bennett stated that the product used at Hancock Street is already failing and does not want to use that again. The Society has been researching different products to see how well they have stood up over time, and it appears that the product used at the Orchard House in Concord MA, will work for the Monroe Tavern. The commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for a new freestanding and wall sign, new paving material and new body, doors, and trim color. Certificate No. 2011C-17 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle and Associate Commissioner Carl Oldenburg map 48 lot 169: 1625 Massachusetts Avenue Jack Glassman, Bargmann Hendrie & Archetype, Inc., representing, Town of Lexingtonrequested to be continued until May 1709 Massachusetts Avenue map 48 lot 101: Kevin Latady, representing, 1709 Mass Ave LLC, presented photographs and elevation of the glass windows facing into the courtyard. These windows have failed and they want to replace with white aluminum to match rest of building the roof sections of these windows will be solid metal. The commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for new windows in the courtyard section of the building. Certificate No. 2011C-21 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Paul Ross, Robert Warshawer and Scott Kyle and Associate Commissioner Carl Oldenburg 1475 Massachusetts Avenue map 48 lot 276: Chairman Joseph Welch updated the commission on the progress of the Windows at Muzzey High Condominiums. Renewal By Anderson will no longer be doing the project they will finish the windows that they have building permits for. The Lexington Housing Authority who owns several units in the building has arranged for the company they use to do the rest of the building. This company has worked with the Lexington Housing Authority on other houses in the Historic Districts. AGENDA FOR THURSDAY, April 7, 2011 INFORMAL HEARINGS 1733 Massachusetts Avenue : map 48 lot 99 Celso Barrow, representing, Mario’s Italian Restaurant, Exterior Architectural Change, (louvers in rear) in the Battle Green District. Did not attend the meeting 773 Massachusetts Avenue : map 22 lot 44Tom Montanari, presented a photograph showing the existing garage that he would like to remove and replace with a two car garage. The commission explained that he would need to come in with detailed drawings and a site plan showing the footprint of the new garage. Looking at the picture of the existing garage it appears that Mr. Montanari needs to speak with the board of appeals in regards to set backs. Mr. Montanari will speak with the Zoning administrator and go from there. 19 Hancock Street : map 56 lot 54Douglas Wilson, presented his ideas of changing the rear landscaping. He is ready for a formal hearing 5 Harrington Road : map 57 lot 1Gerry Frank, Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects, representing, Thomas and Carla Fortmann, presented an idea for removing the existing carriage house and replacing with a two car garage and rear addition. They are ready for a formal hearing 21 Hancock Street map 56 lot 53: Megan Ostuni, presented ideas for a new roof. She is ready for a formal 9 Hancock Street : map 49 lot 4BDawn McKenna, needs to resurface and change the shape of her driveway and planting bed and went over a few different ideas. 33 Forest Street map49 lot164B: Scott Robins, SAR Development, representing Hancock Clarke Condominium Association, presented the need for more venting on the roof. OTHER BUSINESS Since becoming a Certified Local Government back in 2009 the Historic District Commission and Historical Commission must have a joint meeting once a year. We would like to plan that meeting for the Historical Commissions next meeting May 19, 2011.
