The commission wants to see more specific details of the materials used. A few examples: samples of the tile, brickwork, capstones, what color the spandrel glass is going to be and cut sheets of items like lighting, and the storefront system. One commissioner did not believe that four signs was appropriate for this particular location and stated that he would not approve the requested blade sign. The commissioners read a letter from Caroline Fitzgerald of 55 Gleason Road expressing her opposition to the pylon sign, and the design of the top panel for Danversbank. One commissioner pointed out that this applicant will have four signs just like Panera is requesting and we want to be consistent. Most of the commissioners believe that 46 Bedford Street is a different enough location that three signs on the building would be appropriate and the pylon sign which is for the entire building will have more than Danversbank displayed on it. The Commission voted 5-0 to issue a certificate of appropriateness for a rear wall sign and the top panel for the pylon sign. Certificate No 2011C-4 Voting Commissioners were: Alfonso Hernandez, Daniel Griffin, and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Acting Chairman: Carl Oldenburg and Scott Kyle. The previous location of the blade sign blocked the New Star Realty wall sign. The Commission voted 5-0 to amend the certificate of appropriateness 2010C-77 to move the blade sign. Voting Commissioners were: Alfonso Hernandez, Daniel Griffin, and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioners Acting Chairman: Carl Oldenburg and Scott Kyle. 18 Muzzey Street - Gerry Frank, Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects, representing, Dr. Sam Levine, map 49 lot 42: Exterior Architectural Change (Regarding signage) in the Battle Green District Requested to be continued to March 1991-1993 Massachusetts Avenue- Patrick Carroll, Signage, in the Battle Green District : map 57 lot 9B Requested to be continued to March 35 Hancock Street- , Patrick CarrollSignage, in the Hancock-Clarke District : map 56 lot 46 Requested to be continued to March INFORMAL HEARINGS 7 Meriam Street- : Peter Gearhart, Architect, representing, Royal India Bistro, presented a drawing of the map 49 lot 8A proposed entrance ramp and examples of towns where this plan was used. The Bistro is going for a variance to the state to have their accessible entrance next to the loading dock at the rear instead of at the front entrance. They do not believe it is actually going to be approved so they are looking into different ideas with out losing seating in the restaurant. The proposed idea was a small ramp perpendicular to the front of the building with a railing. The commission believes even though the town approved the width of the ramp it takes up too much of the sidewalk and the overall look is not appropriate for this building. The commission spent time discussing other plans and ideas with Mr. Gearhart. Mr. Gearharts next step is to see if he can come up with a compromise of using some interior and exterior space. He will return with more ideas in March. 40 Hancock Street - : Anthony Dubon, presented ideas for enclosing corner bay of rear porch for a map 56 lot 39C mudroom, remove windows on the porch for access to mudroom, and install gas fire place vent thru exterior wall. There is an architectural detail on the trim of the porch that the commission suggested he try to keep when enclosing the corner. Mr. Dubon is ready for a formal hearing. 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 e-mail acasparius@lexingtonma.gov AGENDA FOR THURSDAY, February 3, 2011 OTHER BUSINESS Upon motion duly made and seconded it was voted 5-0 to approve the Minutes of January 2011 Upon motion duly made and seconded it was voted 5-0 to adjourn the meeting at 9:45 PM 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 e-mail acasparius@lexingtonma.gov
