2. Current Business Review:
ACROSS Lexington report: (Rick, Alex, Eileen, Keith)
• Dave Cannon (DPW) and Manny Ferro (Police) both liked ACROSS Lexington concept,
had concerns about crossing Adams St. to North St., and also Hancock St. at Victory
Garden Way. Subcommittee will address. ACROSS Route A will use sidewalk along
entrance to Diamond Middle Schoolfrom Hancock St. until Victory Garden Way is
completed.
• Bicycle Advisory Comm. liked concept also.
• April 13 is the League of Women Voters first Friday forum on Transportation — Rick &
Alex will attend, present ACROSS Lexington concept.
• Scheduled for May 7 Sidewalk Comm. Meeting.
• GCC needs to have relationship (liaison) with Sidewalk Comm/Safe Routes to School,
Traffic Safety Advisory Comm.
• Need to work with Conservation, Recreation, Bikeway, Historic District Commission
or signage.
• Explanation of proposed signage, discussion about logo design with Sean Hagan's early
designs.General approval of the color (blue),needs a dominant graphic element. Rick will
keep working with Sean.
• Discussion about signage system— Mike is working on; system needs to be simple and
consistent. Will be combination of logo, directional arrow, route "name" (letter ?) —
perhaps more info at confusing junctions. Sign vendor in Waltham has inexpensive signs
that are low- maintenance and vandal- resistant.
• While our priority is getting Route A up and running, we should also consider future
signage, including trail markers on Conservation properties.
• Conservation Commission has approved the trail re- routing at Diamond M. S. This is a
possible Scout project. The Stewards will manage it; Stew and Bob will oversee with
Mike's advice.
•Funding —Deb's advice is that the Town should pay, which will give it ownership of
route system and also cover liability issues. Keith has submitted budget proposal
requesting $850.00 for Route A; no response yet.
• Weought to have the money by June 1 (15 ?) in order to get posts in and signs affixed by
September. Posts to be sunk by Stewards and /or Scouts. A question arose about the need
to call Dig Safe -Dave Cannon should know about that.
• Adams St. crossing needs to be confirmed.
• Action Item —Rick — continue ACROSS Lexington logo work
• Action Item —Mike — continue signage planning
3. Current Business Updates:
• Drummer Boy easement — (Bob) Ongoing.
• Pelham Rd trail —(Bob) No news from Town lawyer. Next step will be to go to
Cambridge to look at the Titles for both Pelham and Highland road parcels.
• Report to Community Preservation Comm., Capital Expenditure Comm., re West
Lexington Greenway Master Plan — (Stew) The next step for GCC, per Deb Mauger's
suggestion, is to develop an alternative trail connection proposal for the central
Minuteman Connector portion as described in the West Lexington Greenway Master Plan
document, and then bring this back to the Board of Selectmen for approval.
Discussion was postponed due to time constraints, but the next GCC "project" should be
a revised proposal for the WLG trail connections. Jay Sklar's Lincoln Lab trail is in this
area.
