HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-04-09-GCC-min (ACROSS subcomm)ACROSS Lexington subcommittee April 9, 2012, Rm 111 Town Hall, 4:30 -5:30 Attending Rick Abrams, Alex Dohan, Eileen Entin, Keith Ohmart Phase 1 Loop Project Notes: 1. Cross Walk at Adams & North Street — Stew and Keith walked this on April 2. Stew much prefers the Myrna Road crossing as follows. He offered to attend a follow up meeting with Dave Cannon to review his reasoning and offer his perspective as a Conservation Commissioner and cyclist. • Major concern is that bicycle users coming up the new proposed trail to Westwood from the bike path are going to have limited opportunity to gauge oncoming traffic as they huff and puff up this trail. Also the shoulder of the road is very narrow putting pedestrians and bicyclists too close to vehicular traffic which moves at speed along this stretch of Adams Street • Conservation is going to have issues building a connecting trail to Westwood as a portion of the trail is within a flood plain. • Sight lines at Myrna are superior to Westwood. • We found a granite boundary marker close to North Street on the south side of Adams which indicates that there is likely 10' or more of town property encompassing all of the trees along this stretch of road providing ample surface to create a path to get to Myrna. • Question for Dave Cannon is what is the procedure for the town establishing an unpaved walking path along this section of Adams to Myrna? • Follow up on Keith's return 2. Diamond Trail • Bob H /Stew have agreed to manage. Confirm at 4/23/12 GCC meeting; Bob has oversight of needed tools. • Set installation deadline and check in with them as needed. Confirm at 4/23/12 GCC meeting; permissions have been granted, just need to schedule work day. • Engage Pat Goddard's assistance re dealing with developer to remove fence. Rick to follow up 3. Conservation approval for sign /post installation. Eileen to follow up • Research source /pricing for stainless steel screw /spring combination from Nell Walker. • Review map of approximate post /sign locations (Keith will prepare) with Conservation staff. Check with Karen Mullins when ready and ask how she would like to handle. Items to discuss include: - Can we use trees to affix signs. Review hardware options. - Can we use existing Conservation posts to affix signs? - Confirm post locations. 4. Bike Committee Alex to follow up • Request another meeting with the Committee to: - Confirm locations of signs - Confirm use of Bike Committee posts, sign posts for mounting signs - Confirm installation of one post near entrance to Parker Meadow boardwalk • Prepare map in advance showing sign locations (Keith will prepare) 5. DPW Rick to follow up • Confirm parameters for installing sign posts with Bill Hadley - proximity to existing regulatory signs - measurement of public street rights of way in various locations requiring sign post installation • Prepare map showing post locations along town streets /sidewalks (Transfer information from general post location map that Keith will prepare). • Confirm Dig Safe details before installing posts on public rights of way 6. Sign Types — Pursue discussion of which types of trail signs, i.e. logo or directional, to use as Confirmation type signs until decision is reached. Rick to follow up; Mike T. working on signage — tell him our plans and ask if that will work with his plan. The Town should order the signs if they are to be purchased from Town budget. 7. Materials Budget — Follow up with Deb Mauger Rick to follow up; need to know y/n if money available, and if so, when can monies be released for use.
