HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-10-12-ECC2-minTown of Lexington Energy Conservation Committee Minutes of meeting of October 12, 2011 Present: Joe Musacchia (Chair), Tom Griffiths, Prabir Maulik, Steve Kropper, Beth Zonis (Eco Marketing LLC), Paul Chernick, Shawn Newell, Roger Borghesani, Bill Hadley (Director, Department of Public Works) Absent: Pat Goddard (Director, Department of Public Facilities), Bill Hadley (Director, Department of Public Works), Ravi Sakhuja, Hank Manz (Liaison to Board of Selectmen), Michelle Ciccolo (Liaison to Planning Board), Chris Haines A meeting of the Lexington Energy Conservation Committee was held on October 12, 2011 at 6pm in Room 221 of the Public Services Building on Bedford St. Bill Hadley gave an update on streetlights. He mentioned that 200 replacement induction lights have been obtained from the manufacturer. A water problem had burnt out the ballast on many of the lamps. He also mentioned that kwh's have gone down 50% during the months of January through September vs. the same period last year. He expressed the hope that all defective lights will be replace by mid- November. He mentioned that LED traffic lights are being looked at and pricing information is being obtained. Neo is being talked to regarding bio -waste energy. The committee decided to discuss what should be included in the RFP. The Green Community Annual Report submitted by the Town Of Lexington was briefly discussed. It showed that 2011 (7/1 -6/30) total energy consumption was down only 2.5% from baseline year 2008. Normalization of energy usage measurements was brought up gain -Paul said he's going to look at weather related normalization while Shawn is working on usage related normalization (take into account summer and after hours usage). Shawn talked about replacing auditorium lights in the high school which use 30OW incandecents — they may not be available much longer. He is also looking at LED's to do external lighting. There was some discussion on what building standards were being used for new public buildings (Estabrook school) and renovations on existing buildings (Bridge and Bowman). For new buildings (Estabrook) it would be Leeds Silver or Leeds Gold and Stretch Energy Code, and for renovations it is going to be just the Stretch Code.
