A meeting of the Lexington Energy Conservation Committee was held on September 14,
2011 at 6pm in Room 221 of the Public Services Building on Bedford St.
The following summarizes the proceedings:
1) Joe mentioned that membership issues have been sorted out and announced that
we now have 9 official members. The names of the members are mentioned in the
meeting agenda.
2) Paul mentioned that the new induction lamp based streetlights had problems with
retaining rain -water and burning out —they are being fixed. Paul also mentioned
the fix is good and will last.
3) Beth mentioned to the committee that "biomass" is a misnomer for the scheme
under discussion for possible implementation on the Hartwell Ave. compost site.
She indicated that it should be called Energy from Food Waste. This scheme is
still in the evaluation stage. Beth told the committee that she knew a company
which had implemented this scheme in the towns of Haverhill and Rutland and
mentioned that she was going to send out some literature on this subject to the
committee.
4) The topic normalization of energy usage measurements came up again -Chris and
Paul who are experts in the area were not yet ready to discuss it. Some
normalization scheme needs to be devised to assess why we may not meet our
Energy Challenge goals. Roger proposed that we look at how other towns were
doing on their goals.
5) iBlogix, a company that does energy analysis of buildings without entering the
building have done analysis of some of the public buildings in Lexington. Shawn
will find out if they can present their findings in the October meeting.
6) Joe listed some of the long -term energy reduction proposals he had sent to the
Selectmen:
11 Photovoltaics on land sites
2) Electric vehicle recharging stations.
3) Accessibility of thermal scans of the public buildings.
