HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-02-02-TCC-min Minutes Town Celebrations Committee February 2, 2012 Legion Room, Cary Hall Members Present Suzie Barry, Linda Dixon, Mary Gillespie, Jo-Anne Granger, Wayne Miller, Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, Sandy Podgorski and Bob Tracey Members Not Present Dick Crogan, Paul Jenkins, Sondra Lucente, Julie Miller, Charlie Price, Jim Shaw and Dave Taylor Business  Suzie Barry convened the meeting at 7 pm.  December 1, 2011 minutes were approved and accepted.  January 5, 2012 minutes were approved and accepted with corrections.  An updated membership list was distributed.  Revised 2012 meeting schedule: February 2 and 9; March 1, 15 and 29; April 5, 12 and 26. May and June dates will be determined at a later time. Patriots’ Day 2012 Morning Events Youth Commission will let us know who will participate as masters of ceremony. Afternoon Events  A vote was taken on a motion made to invite Claude Julien, Bruins’ Coach; Peter Cirelli, Bruins’ General Manager; Don Sweeney, Bruins’ Vice President and Director of Personnel; and, Bob Beers, Sports Commentator, (and their families) to participate in the afternoon parade as Honorary Grand Marshals. The motion passed and was accepted.  A vote was taken on a motion made to accept ten no-fee applications. Said motion passed and was accepted. Suzie is still awaiting applications from five other no-fee groups.  Twenty-two applications for pay have been received. A vote was taken on a motion made to accept the fourteen returning groups at the same fee as paid in 2011. The motion passed and was accepted. The remaining eight groups would like additional compensation this year; Suzie, however, will talk with them about the committee’s need to adhere to our level funding policy. Two new applicants will be asked to reconsider their asking price.  Those invitees who have not yet responded will be contacted. Staffing  Linda Dixon’s recruitment flyer for parade ambassadors was distributed to committee members and discussed.  The flyer will be submitted to the Lexington Minuteman, Colonial Times, etc. Interested parties may access the application on line. Patriots’ Day 2013 All parade groups have been notified of next year’s day change and said that they can come. Memorial Day 2012  Chief Marshal – There has been no commitment yet.  Speaker -- Suzie is waiting to hear from the invitee. Linda may have a person to suggest if the initial invitee is not available. Memorial Day 2013 and Lexington 300 th thth This is closing day of the 300 festivities. Suzie will contact the 300 Committee to discuss interest in meshing our and their events. Miscellaneous  Town Celebrations Committee has been called upon to arrange a concert by the th Air Force Band of Liberty sometime around the July 4holiday.  The committee discussed a New Hampshire resident’s request to speak some time during Patriots’ Day. Since the portion of the day’s events that Town Celebrations is responsible for is already set, it was decided that we cannot accommodate his request.
