HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-08-30-SLC-minTown of Lexington Sustainable Lexington Committee Minutes of Meeting of August 30, 2011 A meeting of the Sustainable Lexington Committee (SLC) was held on August 30, 2011 at Town Hall. A quorum of four was present. Members Present: Mark Sandeen, Chair Rick Abrams, Ken Moraff, Todd Rhodes Members Absent: None Other Attendees: George Brunell Travis Estes, Next Step Living (NSL) The meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm. Minutes from the July 26, 2011 were approved. Mr. Estes provided an overview of NSL activities: • NSL conducts 80 to 100 home energy assessment each day • He got 27 signups recently at the Farmers Market. The farmers market continues through 10/25 and he plans to go again. Mr. Sandeen provided an update on Sagewell activities based on recent discussions with S agewell : • IR images have been taken for 50% of the buildings in Lexington. • They have completed analyses on about 2,250 homes. • There are about 450 high opportunity targets. • SLC committee members plan to review the list of high opportunity targets to identify "trendsetters" (i.e., residents well -known in the community that could help promote the program). • Three waves of postcards are planned: 0 9/12: a postcard with an image of a generic house o Date TBD: a postcard with an image of the actual house o Date TBD: a postcard with the results of the analysis Mr. Sandeen led a discussion of plans for the program kickoff event. • The meeting is planned for 9/27 in the Selectman's Meeting Room • The meeting will be structured to create a 30 minute segment that can be rebroadcast on LexMedia. The planned agenda for the event is: Pagel of 2 1. 20/20 program introduction 2. Sagewell — thermal imaging presentation 3. Lessons from the Lexington analysis 4. NSL — assessment process 5. NSL — air sealing and insulation 6. Wrap up - what to do next, how to get involved. We will plan to call it the "20/20 program" Additional activities: • Write articles about the kickoff event for the Minuteman, Colonial Times, and Boston Globe Northwest section. • Create flyer for the 20/20 kickoff event • Prepare one -page PowerPoint about the event for the Selectmen • Plan for outreach event at Lincoln Field (T. Rhodes) • Prepare a calendar for back to school nights (R. Abrams) • Contact Charles Lamb (Capital Expenditures Committee) to discuss Green Infrastructure projects. • Create videos to educate residents about home energy efficiency • Mr. Brunnell identified that NSL produced video could be used as long as they are educational and not an advertisement. • Mr. Estes stated that he has worked with high school students to produce local videos that described the assessment process and discussed actions and benefits.
