Tourism Committee
Minutes of December 14, 2009 Meeting
Present: Susan Bennett, Kerry Brandin, Dawn McKenna, Mary Gillespie, John

Minutes:
• Upon motion duly made and seconded, the minutes of the November 16 meeting
were approved.
Information and Actions:
• It was the sense of the Committee that networking events organized by Greater
Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau provide a useful opportunity to promote
the attractions of Lexington and that notably the Annual Tour Operators weekend
presented a good occasion to create awareness about Lexington and market us as
a tourist destination,
• Masha suggested a list of recommendations for operational changes to the Liberty
Ride; they include changing Liberty Ride hours of operation from 10:3 Oam-
4 : 3 Opm to 10: OOam — 4: OOpm.
• On motion duly made and seconded, the Tourism Committee unanimously
approved the following prioritization of tourism funds:
1. Creation of the visitor map
2. Web presence optimization
3. Participation in the annual Massachusetts Office of Tourism &Travel
(MOTT) Conference
4. Creation of the daily /weekly calendar of events worksheet
5. Selective use of cost - effective advertising opportunities
• Upon motion duly made and seconded, the Committee voted unanimously to
approve the disbursement of $6,000 of marketing funds for an advertisement on
the front page of the Greater Boston Visitors website, which would also come
with a free ad on the Boston Everyday section of the website. These
advertisements will be in lieu of the advertisement currently running on the Tour
Planner's section of the website, given the increased visibility of the former. Per
the vote, the Liberty Ride ad will continue to run in its current location on the
Museum and Attraction section of the website.
• The Committee agreed to review detailed proposals, analysis and
recommendations for electronic ticketing at future Tourism Committee Meetings.
• Battle Green Master Plan group will meet December 7.
