HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-05-11-TOUR2-minTown of Lexington Tourism Committee Minutes of May 11, 2009 Meeting Present: Susan Bennett, Kerry Brandin, Bebe Fallick, Carla Fortmann, Kathleen James, Dawn McKenna, Joanne Myers, Paul O' Shaughnessy, John Patrick, John Ott Staff: Masha Traber Guests: Paul and Holly Kingsford, Andy Friedlich Meeting Called to Order: 4:10 PM Minutes: • Scribe for this meeting — Joanne Myers • Minutes of April 14, 2009 meeting moved, seconded and approved as presented Liberty Ride: • Attendance Patriot's Day weekend comparable to 2008 • 81 charters booked to date, compared to 77 in 2008 • Starting June 1, the National Heritage Museum will be closed on Mondays; Masha will handle sales at the trolley stop using Liberty Ride credit card machine • Committee decided not to participate in tee sponsorship at Chamber Golf Tournament Activities: • Joint Tourism Training, June 3, 5:00 to 7:30 PM at the Depot. Event will begin with refreshments; formal program beginning at 5:30, including tour of Hancock - Clarke House (guide will be posted in each of the rooms). Dawn will print up the "tickets" for participants to visit sites independently; Liberty Ride will be limited to space - available. • Greater Merrimack Valley Visitor and Convention Bureau ad has been placed for $1400 in which the sites share the cost. Dawn will follow up with NHM. • John Patrick shared the Powerpoint presentation he created for town meeting on the Tourism Committee's Marketing Strategy. Discussion points included: how to measure success; the product education v. entertainment; our brand; website optimization two web site s tourlexington.com and libertyride.com; social networking via Facebook and Twitter • Boston USA banner ad; discussion about whether to place under Meeting Planner or Tour Planner. Moved, seconded, and unanimously approved to go ahead with banner under Tour Planner. Time constraints dictate moving forward immediately. Subcommittee will meet to discuss long term design considerations. • Battle Green Master Plan Update. League of Women Voters forum went well. Dawn called for volunteers for Discovery Day. Chris Bateman has designed a two -sided survey to gather input from Lexington residents regarding the Battle Green. Other public forums include Business Round Table, Field and Garden Club, Newcomers' Club, churches and synagogues. Battle Green Master Plan Committee will meet on May 18 at 4 PM. • Plans are moving ahead for Antony Reunion trip. Please let Dawn know if you plan to attend. • "Walk bike on sidewalks" signage. Andy Friedlich presented recommendation to place sign on each trash receptacle. Agreement that issue is important and citing town by -law. Issues are: where, affixed to what, how many /how frequent, what material and who will pay for signage. To be voted at our next meeting.
