Minutes for August 24, 2011
Present: David Williams, Chair, Lynne Wilson, Nell Walker, Brian Kelley, Jon Eddy, and Kris Burton.
Also: David Pinsonneault, Operations Manager, DPW, and Wendy Rudner from Recreation.
The meeting began at 7:30 with the introduction of David Pinsonneault who has been promoted at
DPW. His old job will be filled by Chris Filadora who will work with us, and Dave wills ask him to
attend our next meeting. He said the trees and plantings in the parkingarea have died for a variety
of reasons. Wes Wirth and his company have worked with the Town on design issues, especially at
p Y
the parking lot. They will fix the drainage, improve the planting beds, install different trees, and
modify the water systems, aerating and irrigating the street trees. Re asked if the committee will
help pay for this work. Nell asked him if the street trees on Worthen Road could be watered.
Brian brought copies of the plans for the bathrooms. The agreement between Lions Club and the
Town has still not been signed, which is disappointing as no donations can be made until a bank
p g
account is set up. The Building Permit must be renewed, but everything else is ready to go. He is
hopeful the agreement will be signed next week. He has extra plans available if anyone wants one.
This plan is final, and there will be no"tweaking." Recreation has seen and approved it, and the
Building Dept. has signed off on it.
There followed a discussion of maintenance—who will clean the bathrooms and how often. How
will this be paid for. DPW will hose it down first thing everyweekday morning, but extra funds
may be needed for weekends. Perhaps a small amount could be added to the charge for the fields to
help with the clean-up. Locks will be installed on a timer. We should add a statement to the donor
sign, saying "Please Respect This Project" or words to that effect. __
Nell praised the Boy Scouts for their 2 major projects in May and August and said theydid good
a g
job. David will write a thank-you to the Scouts and the MinuteMan. Lussier has done alot of work
on the watering system this summer. The drainage at the Cart Path is spectacular—the r
g p ate now
goes off to the side. Bill Brumback went to the Park yesterday to clean up invasives. The tree work
has opened up the views. Nell has had a small crew of 3 to work this summer,
There has been a noticeable increase in the number of dogs at the Park recently. They are running
around ofd leash and jumping up on people. They are messing up the boardwalks, and owners are
not cleaning up after them, The committee all agreed that all dogs must be leashed at all times, and
owners must clean up after them, Simple signs are needed ASAP, and these may encourage other
visitors to the Park to speak up. We will need permission top utaP signs on Hayden land. The
benches have been vandalized more this year than ever, and the graffiti has been terrible.
Nell sent some email pictures to Mr. Lee, showing the plaque, and he is satisfied.
The minutes for the June 8 meeting were accepted as written, All in favor.
The next meeting is scheduled for September 21 at 7:30
Meeting adjourned at 9 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Kristine Burton
