9 August 2011 Meeting
A duly posted meeting of the Noise Advisory Committee (NAC), held in the Legion
Room, Cary Hall, was called to order at 7:30 pm by Chairman Tony Galaitsis with
members Jeanne Krieger, Martha Wood, and Steve Kropper present. Present in the
audience was Mr. Richard Canale, Planning Board member.
The NAC covered the topics listed in the 8/9/11 agenda, namely:
Discussion of Reappointments
Mr. S. Kropper indicated that he wished to be reappointed; Ms. J. Krieger and Ms. M.
Wood indicated that they would not seek reappointment.
It was pointed out that most of the 2011 meetings were cancelled due to a) Lack of
assigned noise - related projects requiring resolution, and b) Failure to achieve a
quorum. To facilitate achievement of quorum for future meetings, the NAC members
were encouraged to seek and nominate candidates that would bring the NAC
membership closer to the 11 persons specified in the NAC's charge.
Welcome R. Canale
Mr. Richard Canale, Planning Board member attending the meeting, indicated that he
has accepted the Planning Board's nomination for membership to the NAC. His
appointment will be considered and acted upon by the Selectmen in the near future.
Minutes of previous meeting (11/9/10)
The 11/9/10 meeting minutes were reviewed and accepted unanimously.

The issue of potential updates to the Noise By -Law was discussed. The discussion
touched upon a) some past topics, such as leaf blowers and later morning startup of
noisy equipment, as well as b) the potential need for an update to the Noise By -Law
to simplify its application. There was a brief discussion of the pros and cons using
noise metrics based on a) Absolute noise levels, and b) Noise level difference from
