HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-08-09-NAC-minNOISE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES 9 August 2011 Meeting A duly posted meeting of the Noise Advisory Committee (NAC), held in the Legion Room, Cary Hall, was called to order at 7:30 pm by Chairman Tony Galaitsis with members Jeanne Krieger, Martha Wood, and Steve Kropper present. Present in the audience was Mr. Richard Canale, Planning Board member. The NAC covered the topics listed in the 8/9/11 agenda, namely: Discussion of Reappointments Mr. S. Kropper indicated that he wished to be reappointed; Ms. J. Krieger and Ms. M. Wood indicated that they would not seek reappointment. It was pointed out that most of the 2011 meetings were cancelled due to a) Lack of assigned noise - related projects requiring resolution, and b) Failure to achieve a quorum. To facilitate achievement of quorum for future meetings, the NAC members were encouraged to seek and nominate candidates that would bring the NAC membership closer to the 11 persons specified in the NAC's charge. Welcome R. Canale Mr. Richard Canale, Planning Board member attending the meeting, indicated that he has accepted the Planning Board's nomination for membership to the NAC. His appointment will be considered and acted upon by the Selectmen in the near future. Minutes of previous meeting (11/9/10) The 11/9/10 meeting minutes were reviewed and accepted unanimously. Discussion of Potential Noise -By -Law Updates The issue of potential updates to the Noise By -Law was discussed. The discussion touched upon a) some past topics, such as leaf blowers and later morning startup of noisy equipment, as well as b) the potential need for an update to the Noise By -Law to simplify its application. There was a brief discussion of the pros and cons using noise metrics based on a) Absolute noise levels, and b) Noise level difference from the ambient noise. These topics will be discussed in greater detail in subsequent meetings. The meeting was adjourned at about 8:35 pm.
