Meeting Minutes

1. New TAC member. Don Graham introduced Diane Pursley. Members summarized
their TAC involvement and interest in transportation issues.
2. LEXPRESS Schedule Changes. As of July 1,2002,Brookhaven, Countryside Manor
and Locke Village were removed as Special Stops. No complaints have been
received.
As of the reopening of school,the first runs of Routes#1,#3 and#5 start at 7:10 am;
five minutes earlier to ensure student riders are on time for the 7:45am late bell. LHS
has reported all LEXPRESS riders on time.
3. Annual Transit Guide Mailing. The LEXPRESS schedule will be mailed in October
with the quarterly tax bill. A suggestion was made that"boarding on demand" should
be emphasized.
Concepts for a new transit guide are being researched. Waltham CitiBus has a new
compact schedule,which was shown as an example.
4. Transportation Management. Hartwell Avenue grant proposal for bus service between
Hartwell and Anderson Transportation Center in Woburn was ineligible for funding as
a new program,but will receive future consideration when new programs are
considered.
Comprehensive Transportation Plan. The Planning Department conducted the first
meeting of the transportation review process.Four TAC members attended.
Joint Regional Transportation Committee(JRTC). Dick Canale, a Lexington
resident and MAGIC coordinator,assumed the chairman position of this advisory
group. Monthly meetings are conducted in Boston.
5. Marketing. Grace Chapel purchased ad space on LEXPRESS for a one-month
period. Payment was$100.
Senior Promotion. A free LEXPRESS ticket was published in the September COA
newsletter.To date,none have been returned in the fare boxes.
Youth Promotion. Children and accompanying adults who show a library card
may ride LEXPRESS for free to all library preschool events. Flyers are posted at the
library and it will be noted in the library newsletter.
Smart Tripper. Bill Levison is assessing modifications to the original document and is
exploring the possibility of an electronic version to facilitate revisions.
Free Saturday Rides in December. Given the success of free LEXPRESS rides on
Discovery Day,a holiday shopping promotion for Saturdays in December will be
Promoted. It is hoped that it will increase Saturday ridership.
6. Chair Car Policy. Statement of purpose will be restructured to stress medical
appointments and nutritional/food shopping. Other purposes will require notification
to the Transportation Services Office. MBTA The Ride will also be added.
7. Tourism Bus. Private donations will insure continuation until October 31.
8. Minutes of July 17 and August 21,2002 were approved.
9. Next meeting. Wednesday, October 16,2002.
