1. Override. "Sustain Lexington"has formed to support the override. It was agreed that
LEXPRESS is not pivotal to the override's success since it is not the major emphasis.
But,TAC fully supports override efforts and will participate in promoting LEXPRES.
Precinct meetings, leafleting of homes,Discovery Day table and car roof top displays are
planned. Diane asked for volunteers to help with precinct leafleting and Discovery Day.
Don Graham will report override events scheduled at the Senior Center. Names are being
solicited of override supporters to be publicized. A fact sheet promoting LEXPRESS and
the Chair Car will be drafted.
Sustain Lexington has advised committees on letter campaigns to the Minuteman.
Diane will write on behalf of TAC and Gail will identify a senior LEXPRESS rider.
It was suggested via a comment on the TMMA website that LEXPRESS has encouraged
school trips to inflate ridership. Gail confirmed that class trips this year and last were
unchanged,approximately 200 students per year.
2. Transportation Options Day. 3,000 flyers were sent home via the schools to all elementary
school students. All public schools will post flyers. The high school will make public
announcements. The library has a transportation display. Erna Greene of the Bicycle
Advisory Committee will be present on the bike path distributing maps of Lexington bike
routes.LEXPRESS will offer free rides.Balloons will be posted at Depot Square and bike
path.Gail noted that support was universal.
3. LEXPRESS. For the first time in FY 03 ridership did not surpass the same period last
year. In comparison to FY02,LEXPRESS was down 81 riders in April. Overall, the
cumulative ridrship remains up 8%.
Fare to rider analysis for the month of April showed an increase of 380 riders.
Incorporation of fare to rider increases in the annual summary was raised as an issue.
Annual Pass Applications. Until the override vote is held on June 2, applications will not
be sent out to current pass holders.Materials are being prepared that information can be
promptly sent if the override succeeds.
4. Patriots Day Parade. It was a successful and fun event enjoyed by both the COA and TAC
participants. Diane, her husband, Sara,Francine, and Gail were thanked. A photo was
displayed in the Minuteman.
5. MBTA Route 76.Ed noted that the MBTA spring schedule has removed Hartwell from its
route. Sara noted that it still services hansom Drive although the MBTA map erroneously
states Airport Road.
