Estabrook School Access Ad Hoc Task Force Sub-committee Meeting
Transportation Data Sub-committee
August 26, 2011
A regular meeting of the subcommittee was held on Friday,August 26, 2011,at 1:00 p.m. in the Estabrook School,
117 Grove Street. Attending were: Sandra Trach, Principal, Estabrook School; Elaine Celi,Transportation
Coordinator, Lexington Public Schools; Betsy Sarles, Co-President, Estabrook PTA;Gretchen Reisig,Co-President,
Estabrook PTA; Margaret Counts-Klebe, Co-Chair, Estabrook Site Council; Ben Moroze, member, Estabrook School
Access Ad Hoc Task Force and Estabrook parent; Deb Mauger,Selectman liaison.
Attendance Sheet/Introductions/Meeting Goals and Timeline
Attendance was taken and introductions were made. Ms.Trach outlined her initial goals:
-develop a draft survey about Estabrook transportation for Lexington-based Estabrook student parents or
guardians at today's meeting.
-create Survey Monkey of approved survey within one week.
-send a letter from the principal around Labor Day to Lexington-based parents and guardians with
information and instructions about the survey.
-determine length of time to keep survey open (e.g.,two weeks?)
-Reconvene sub-committee to review survey results and create a report for the Task Force.
-Disband sub-committee.
Survey Development
The sub-committee reviewed information prepared by Ms. Celi that contained a road map of the Estabrook School
district; a map indicating where students(by grade) lived within the district; a data list of students by grade by
street; a prior School Department transportation survey along with results; and a Transportation Department
survey prepared by the Wellesley Public Schools. Ms. Reisig distributed the "School Transportation Report 2011"
prepared by Safe Routes to School/Lexington Public Schools/Lexpress.
Using these documents the members created a transportation survey. Ms. Mauger kept notes and agreed to send
a typed draft survey to members for their review and comment. Once the survey is approved, Ms.Celi will work
with School Department Staff to create the Survey Monkey and to provide summary data,while Ms.Strach will
write the principal's letter. The members agreed to serve as test respondents for the survey. Ms. Reisig
volunteered to analyze the data including an analysis of the comments.
Timeline
-Ms. Mauger will email the draft survey today, Friday,August 26 to members for their review and comment.
-School Department staff will develop the Survey Monkey of the final survey next week(the week of August 29)
-Ms.Strach will distribute her letter on Tuesday, September 6 and keep the survey open until Monday,September
12.
-The sub-committee will meet again on Wednesday,September 21 at 3:30 p.m. at the Estabrook School to review
final survey results and prepare report for the Task Force.
-The final report will be submitted to the Task Force by September 23.
-The sub-committee will disband after submitting the final report.
