1. Minutes from March 15, 2011
th
The minutes for March 15 meeting were amended and will be voted on during the next
Site Council meeting.
A follow-up discussion regarding Response To Intervention (RTI) centered on how the
basic building blocks of education are learned in the lower grades. Important skills for
kindergarten students are learning how to sustain attention in the classroom and being
able to maintain focus on instruction. Teachers are working together to learn how to best
teach these attributes. Mention was made that parents do not know the benchmarks per
grade, especially for Kindergarten. How to best get the message to the parents was asked.
A possible solution was suggested that next year there be an effort made to better educate
the parents as to what these expectations are.
2. School Council Grants
There remains a balance of $519.81 in funds available from the original total of $1500 in
the Harrington School Council Grant Account. To date, grants have been awarded to the
second and fourth grades. Mr. Smith will discuss the possible use of the balance with Ms.
Wehmeyer for some unfunded BU grants.
3. School Representatives for 2011-12
Five members of the Council have met the requirements of their two-year term – parents
Genevieve Ng and Susie Lee-Snell as well as faculty members Susan Rosie and Liz
Sheriff. Grant Smith will be leaving the district. Recruitment efforts include placing an ad
in the Harrington Herald and for the faculty members to reach out to their colleagues.
4. Update on Assistant Principal Search
Seventy-two applicants have applied for the position, which is 1.0 FTE broken into half-
time assistant principal and half-time fourth teacher. Twelve applicants were chosen by to
be interviewed, which resulted in three finalists. There are presently three elementary
assistant principal openings in the district.
