HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-05-08-TAC-min Transportation Advisory Committee Minutes Meeting Date: May 8, 2006 Attendees: Sara Arnold, Sally Castleman, Elaine Dratch, Francine Stieglitz, Gail Wagner June 5 Override There are four questions on the June 5 town override ballot that primarily address the school budget. Question 4 includes the Lexpress $50,000 reduction. It is grouped with municipal services such as library hours, yard waste collection and police clerk. Sara solicited volunteers to attend override coffees. Given the emphasis on school issues, it is anticipated that municipal issues will not generate much discussion. Sara will develop a brief statement pertinent to Lexpress loss of services to submit to the YES campaign. This statement will serve as a script for TAC members attending community override events. Letters of support for the override noting Lexpress will be solicited for the Minuteman. Eric representing students and the Landaus as seniors were identified as prime sources of letters. Parking Meters The parking meter article forwarded by Patrick Mehr and shared with TAC was discussed. The concept of increasing meter fees to support town services, especially public transit, was championed by TAC in 2003 and has been subsequently supported. Listsery Public Transit Exchanges It was exciting that public transit was a town listsery discussion. Since listsery discussions arise spontaneously, however, it is not seen as an ongoing public transit forum. In regard to the suggestion of developing a fact card on public transit routes to the Burlington Mall and Alewife Station, it did not seem feasible. Promotion of the town transportation website and calls to the Lexpress office is the most comprehensive source of information. Lexington retail sensitivity to Burlington Mall promotion was noted. Discovery Day A Lexpress bus will not be present at Discovery Day on Saturday, May 28, due to staffing issues. Lexpress service will operate form 10am through the 3:30 routes sponsored by the Lexington Retailers Association. The Lexpress promotional board and schedules will be displayed by the DPW. DPW Open House A Lexperss bus will be on display for boarding as a part of the DPW Open House on May 25. Pass Sales The Town websites under Lexpress lists the new General and Family pass rates approved by the Selectmen; General Pass $300 and Family $625. Pass renewal letters will be sent immediately following the June 5 override vote when service hours are determined. TAC Member Recruitment Two women working on the YES campaign have expressed an interest in joining TAC post- override. Also, Carl Valente has identified a retired resident, Marilyn Campbell, as a potential TAC member. Gail spoke with Marilyn and assessed her primary interest in door-to-door service for seniors. Next TAC Meeting: Wed,June 21, 5:30 pm, Town Hall, Room 111 Prepared by Gail Wagner
