Information packets on vehicle research conducted by Bill and Gail were provided.
Research was organized into categories under the titles of public transit, private services,
and manufacturer reps.
Discussion raised these points:
• Length max 26 feet
• Seating 20 seats minimum (includes flip seats to accommodate wheelchairs to
maximize use of space)
• EPA compliant
• Fare Box in view of driver
• ADA requirements (step height, lift/ramp)
Advantageous
• More than 20 seats
• Wheelchair Lift/Ramp with Minimal rattling (dissatisfaction with current lift
regarding excessive noise)
• Local presence of manufacture's service rep
• Fully compliant EPA standards- community's environmental concern
Gail will contact MA Dept of Telecommunications to inquire as to safety standards for
riders standing in the aisles on a public bus and number of wheelchair spaces required in
a seating plan for a public transit bus.
