Meeting Date: February 8, 2007
Attendees: Sara Arnold, Sally Castleman, Elaine Dratch, Pat Goddard, Hank Manz,
Francine Stieglitz, Gail Wagner
Town Meeting Report
TAC will present a Lexpress report at Town Meeting. It will most likely be in
conjunction with the Stabilization Fund votes. The Town Manager will be asked as to
specific format. For the first time, administrative duties for Parking Operations and
Lexpress will be listed separately in the budget rather than totally under Lexpress.
Administrative costs are split equally between the two transportation services programs.
Gail will prepare a list of administrative duties for each program in the event questions
are raised at Town Meeting.
New Buses Exterior Color
The manufacturer will paint the exterior color of the new buses. A color should be
established by the beginning of March, earlier than anticipated. Color schemes were
discussed. Gail was asked to see if there is a color chart and to investigate the possibility
of a two-tone diagonal paint scheme. Gail noted that in investigating decals for the back-
up bus last year that she was told by a professional designer that color was the most
important aspect of branding a bus service. Continuation of the current teal/blue color
was discussed. Sara is to contact Reid Zurlo, a citizen volunteer, who has previously
critiqued Lexpress exterior designs.
Route Modifications
The drivers monitored Route 3, Solomon Pierce loop, this past month. One rider is
boarding on the 7:10am route. Route 3 arrival time at LHS is recorded daily on the
drivers' sheets and is within the posted time schedule.
Sara inquired about the opening of the Met State development since Lexpress service will
incorporate this site. Gail is to confirm an occupancy date. Gail envisions modification of
Lexpress Route 2 and Route 4 to accommodate the extension of Route 2 to the Met State
development. As negotiated in the TDM terms for this property, $35,000 will be given
annually to support Lexpress service.
Regional Transportation Issues
Gail reported that the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) continues to conduct
meetings regarding the Waltham/Belmont/Lexington corridor. Waltham will petition the
MBTA to increase bus service on Trapelo Road and is supported in this effort by
Belmont and Lexington. A grade separation at Crosby's Corners Route 2
(Lincoln/Concord) continues to be explored and promoted as a Transportation
Improvement Program.
