Lexpress October Report
➢ Rider to vehicle ratio was 10.3
➢ 1,800 more riders than Oct 2006 including 284 more Senior riders
FY09 Lexpress Budget
➢ Preliminary budget development continues.
➢ FY09 budget presently reflect an increase of under 1%
TDM Funds
➢ Michael Young reviewed the FY09 TDM summary
➢ All TDM funds must be appropriated at Town Meeting. If Starwoods' occupancy
certificates are anticipated in FY09 the $200,000 will be appropriated.
➢ The expiration of 16 Hayden Ave TDM agreement will be addressed in the annual letter.
Michael advised requesting a sum equivalent to $4,000 in 2008 dollars. It was suggested
that CPI be factored to raise the figure as an initial negotiating point.
➢ 4% is the current annual rate on town interest bearing accounts.
School Bus Issues
➢ Arrival times at LHS are charted daily and a summary was distributed.
➢ Route 3 ran 10 minutes ahead of schedule one day last week and all drivers were
reminded to follow the posted times.
➢ Traffic Mitigation Group (TMG) is recruiting a school representative to initiate a
dialogue on school transportation policies impact on the community.
➢ Worthen Road parking fees for LHS students was raised.
➢ School bus subsidy could become a Town Meeting issue.
TAC List Serve
➢ Danny raised the issue of a transportation blog to promote exchange of information and
ideas. It was suggested that a transportation list serve maybe an offshoot of a current
citizens' blog.
➢ The need to monitor and control heated discussions on any list serve was noted.
➢ TMMA was raised as a private list serve example.
Community Outreach
➢ Lexpress presence at environmental forums was raised.
➢ Gail reported on a Cambridge initiative that may be embraced by a number of town
committees; TAC, TMG, Global Warming, Anti-Idling, Sidewalk, Bike, Safe Routes to
School. It is called Green Walk/Ride Days that are held in Cambridge the last Friday of
each month. More information found on web http://www.gogreenstreets.org. Gail will
contact Nancy Nolan of the Global Warming Committee regarding Walk/Ride Days.
➢ Lexpress in past years has sponsored a 250 Ride Day that would compliment Green Days
➢ Gail is to inquire if MBTA Charlie Cards can be distributed at the Lexpress office.
