HomeMy WebLinkAboutSidewalk Committee - WALKS - Revised Charge 2011Sidewalk Committee Members: 9 Appointed By: Board of Selectmen Length of Term: 3 years (rotating) Appointments Made: September 30 Meeting Times: As Needed Description: This Committee will advise the Board of Selectmen on sidewalk policies. In developing recommendations they will seek broad citizen input to support and encourage implementation of the recommendations of the Transportation Element of the Comprehensive Plan for increasing pedestrian activity and reducing traffic by considering the adequacy of the town wide sidewalk network to safely address the Town's recreation and commuter needs; And if warranted: • Work with the school PTAs and School Department to implement and sustain a Safe Routes to School program at all schools within the town • Recommend a Master Plan for sidewalk construction and maintenance, including a prioritization strategy • Recommend design concepts such as tree requirements, green borders between the edge of pavement and sidewalk, roads that necessitate sidewalks, crosswalk signage and placement. • Recommend a policy and bylaws/ordinances for sidewalk maintenance by private property owners, particularly snow removal, Town of Lexington right of way clearances and removal of tree and brush obstructions upon sidewalks and unpaved public pathways • Recommend a method of financing the development of the proposed Master Plan Criteria for Membership: Nomination by school PTA organizations, Enthusiasm for good health, safety and sound planning. Ref.: Adopted by the Board of Selectmen at its meeting on November 29, 2004. Board of Selectmen voted to designate as Special Municipal Employees on 1/18/06. Selectmen voted to change membership from 9-13 to 9 members on October 17, 2011.
