Harrington School Council Meeting
June 14, 2011 Minutes
Members Present:

2.2011-2012 Schedule of meeting approved
Transition of Site council members

a.Outgoing
: Two parent representatives (Susie Lee-Snell,
Genevieve Ng), two staff representatives (Grant Smith,
Susan Rosie) were thanked for contributions during
their tenure on the Site Council.
b.Incoming
: Interest expressed by 4 parents for 2 open
seats. A member reviewed Clarke process for voting.
Suggestions for improvement to the process included a)
no photograph b) short paragraph (no less than 200
words) c) candidate information included in summer
packets or in backpack in the fall.
Action: S. Cherenson volunteered to help with mailer.
Action: E. Mead to write to candidates.
4.Additional Topics
a.Update on Transportation survey.
The survey was
completed, presented to Dr. Ash the previous week and
to be presented to Town Selectman today. Goals
include uniform traffic, dismissal and safety plans (e.g.
dedicated bus lanes). Additionally, a neighbor of the
Harrington school has expressed concerned about the
traffic speed on Lowell Street. TSAC (Lexington
Traffic Safety Advisory Committee) has been informed.
b.Bridge School Parent Benchmark survey.
During the
month of May, Bridge school surveyed parents via
SurveyMonkey to establish needs assessment from
parent’s perspective.
Action: E. Mead to contact Bridge school principal

Action: A. Chamberlain to contact Bridge School
Counselor
School Improvement Plan overview -
c. previous two
goals to remain the same with change forthcoming in
action steps. ProSocial expectations to be passed onto
parents.
“Responsive Classroom” initiative –
d. district-wide
elementary school principals attended a School
Committee meeting to discuss this initiative. Thirty
teachers across Lexington will attend workshop this
summer (15 from Harrington). Harrington teachers will
create a matrix across all school settings including
HAWKS “key values”.
Question about district morale –
e. Council briefly
discussed School Committee’s concerns about district
morale. Members acknowledged that there are multiple
perspectives and recommend that we try to be factual
when discussing complex issues.
