HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-04-07-TCC-min Minutes Town Celebrations Committee April 7, 2011 Town Office Building, Room 111 Members present Suzie Barry, Dick Crogan, Linda Dixon, Mary Gillespie, Sondra Lucente, Julie Miller, Wayne Miller, Bill Mix, Sandy Podgorski, Charlie Price, Jim Shaw and Dave Henry Murphy , Taylor Members not present Jo-Anne Granger, Paul Jenkins, John Rossi and Bob Tracey Business  Suzie Barry called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.  The March 24, 2011 minutes were accepted with two changes. Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 18, 2011 Updates: Dave Taylor Dave will continue to distribute event information. Charlie Price Charlie reports that we can post the event schedule at Minuteman Park. Linda Dixon nd The 182 Medical Company of Concord, MA honor guard has returned its application. Linda mentioned that if the government shutdown occurs, the unit may have to send a smaller group to the parade. Mary Gillespie  Thirty-eight children have signed up to be banner bearers. th  There will be a new banner entry for the Lexington 300 anniversary.  John Ott is not available to announce this year’s parade.  Brookline Bank may only have one volunteer available to help with the parade. Bill Mix  The Spirit of ’76 is all set.  USS Constitution’s second in command will be on the reviewing stand. Dick Crogan Again, there has been no response from LHS for student volunteers. Julie Miller Julie’s nephew will provide cars for the afternoon parade to transport folks who need to ride. Jim Shaw  Reminisants was asked to resubmit its application.  Rainbow Girls will participate in both the morning and afternoon parades.  A car has been arranged to transport honorary chief marshal Coach Bill Tighe. Sandy Podgorski th The scouts were contacted and reminded to respond by April 4 with names of children who would recite the boy scout law and oath and cub promise at the morning ceremony. Only response so far has been from pack 137. Sondra Lucente  A motion was made and approved to accept the following groups in the afternoon parade: Pop Warner football and pickup truck; Dick Michelson’s truck; Roger Williams’ truck; Hanscom AFB honor guard; Bedford Minutemen; LCA Robotics Team and banner; Liberty Running Club; Destination Imagination; LHS Class of 1965; and, Gina Johnson’s float displaying portraits of Massachusetts soldiers killed in action.  Sondra will call Jean Terhune at the Chamber of Commerce to check on float judges. Miscellaneous:  Suzie walked the green with the DPW and police. There are slight modifications to the police line this year that will not affect us.  Assignments for the day were discussed.  Dave Taylor has a pop up canopy we can use for banner bearer checkout at the end of the parade.  Eight golf carts are available for afternoon parade use only.  Jo-Anne Granger has heard from all the girl scouts groups.  The Youth Commission will give names for master of ceremony participation at the green.  Ice cream cone certificates are available for thanking banner bearers.  A motion was made and approved to allow the Youth Commission members to hand out small flags along the parade route. Memorial Day, May 30, 2011  Col. Cheryl Poppe will be guest speaker.  Linda Dixon will talk with the Lexington Clergy Association to arrange for a clergy representative.  A motion was made and approved to name Sandy Podgorski as chief marshal.  Jim Shaw will ask Senator Ken Donnelly to attend the ceremony and present a senate proclamation recognizing and thanking VA volunteers.
