Members Present: Sandra Shaw, Wendy Rudner, Lisah Rhodes, Rick DeAngelis and Howard Vogel Staff Present: Karen Simmons, Director of Recreation, Chris Filadoro, Superintendent of Public Grounds, and Sheila Butts, Assistant Director of Recreation Others Present: Hank Manz, Board of Selectmen Liaison The Recreation Committee meeting began at 5:51 p.m. The meeting acted on the following items: 1. Citizens and Other Boards — None 2. Meeting Minutes from June 13, 2011 and June 15, 2011 Sandra Shaw asked that the information under Liaison Reports in the June 13, 2011 meeting minutes be amended to clarify that the youth group from Grace Chapel who participated in the Minuteman Bikeway cleanup on June 4 was organized and supervised by the Bicycle Advisory Committee. Lisah Rhodes moved and Wendy Rudner seconded acceptance of the Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes of June 13, 2011 as amended and June 15, 2011 as written. The motion was approved by a vote of 5 — 0. 3. Discussion of Joint Meeting with Board of Selectmen in August The Recreation Committee had a brief discussion about the upcoming meeting with the Board of Selectmen on August 29, 2011. The meeting will provide an opportunity for the Recreation Committee to present data to the Selectmen about current field usage, needs for additional field space to accommodate the individuals and groups who have been denied field permits due to lack of appropriate space. Karen Simmons told the Committee that Peter Coleman is revising the presentation made to the BLUPC, to include additional field use data. A draft of the presentation will be available for the Committee at the August 17 Recreation Committee meeting. Discussion of temporary Lights on the Center Track — Fall 2011 Karen Simmons presented a request from Lexington United Soccer Club to install temporary lighting outside of the Center Track Field from mid October to mid November. LUSC has used the lights on Center 1 and Center 2 for the past two fall seasons, and prior to that had been approved to install temporary lighting outside the track for several years. After a brief discussion, Lisah Rhodes made motion to approve the temporary lighting from October 17 through November 19, 2011. Sandra Shaw seconded the motion. The motion was approved by a vote of 5 — 0. 5. Golf Course Tour • Members of the Recreation Committee briefly discussed the status of the course, its playability, finances, player profile, tee times, and comparison of use and greens fees collected in 2010. • Karen Simmons and John Allen reviewed the USGA Turf Advisory Report which had been distributed to the Committee at the June 15 meeting. • Members toured the course. The next meeting of the Recreation Committee will take place on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Town Office Building in Room 111 at 7:00 p.m. The July 20, 2011 meeting of the Recreation Committee adjourned at 7:50 p.m. The following documents /exhibits distributed at the meeting are attached: • FY 2012 — 2016 Department Summary of Capital Improvement Projects Respectfully Submitted, Sheila Butts 2
