HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-03-08-COA-minCOUNCIL ON AGING Meeting: Thursday, March 8, 2007 3 :30 p.m. Attending; Shirley Buck Marian Cohen, Chairperson Bob Edwards Dan Fenn Paul Lapointe Leo McSweeney Nick Santosuosso Jane Trudeau Jim Goell, Lex SA John Fedorochko, Lex SA Lauren McSweeney, Director, Social Services The minutes of the February 8, 2007 meeting were approved as edited, "Lexington Remembers" Mary Gillespie reported on the oral history project underway in collaboration with Lexington Media. The committee members are; Francine and Bob Edwards, Jackie Ward, Dan Fenn, and Julian Bussgang• To date longtime Lexington residents John Quinlan and Ariel Pierro have been interviewed, Prospective subjects are Ruth Kelley, Mae Baskin, Mr. Chiesa, and Mrs. Goodman. The FCOA will fund CDs of the programs, Muzzey Condominium Associates Dan Fenn and Nickm Santuosso volunteered to attend Trustee meetings on a regular basis, Jane Trudeau will serve as backup if neither of them is able to attend. Laws The COA had voted to restate our purpose by focusing less on needs and problems and more on enrichment and quality of life, However, after being advised that it would require a vote of Town Meeting to make changes, the COA voted to leave the statement of purpose "as is," Dan Fenn suggested that the Town Manager review our proposed changes, Update on White House proposal for a new Senior Center The wording in Town Warrant ARTICLE 35 uses the term Senior Center /Community Center to describe the proposed new facility, Both Marian Cohen and Dan Fenn reiterated our intention to make a new Senior Center available to other community groups, but the COA would retain control and Senior use would have priority before any other use, John Fedorochko suggested that we call it an "Adult Center•" On March 1, Marian Cohen, Paul Lapointe, and Lauren McSweeney met with Jeanne Krieger, Phil Poinelli of the PBC, and the Town Manager, Carl Valente, They agreed to support the release of Thirty -Five Thousand ($35,000.00) dollars appropriated by an earlier Town Meeting to study the White House site, Paul Lapointe noted that we must organize our space requirements utilizing both our present site and the White House space, Warrant ARTICLES 12 24 and 25 The COA has taken no position on these Articles to date. Director's Rep or Interviews are underway for a new Clerk, Social Services Coordinator, and Veterans' Agent, A new position has been approved for a Clerk for the Adult Day Care program.
