1) May meeting minutes were approved unanimously.
2) Goals discussion.
Nothing was decided. The strawman from last meeting was 50% by 2020 and 100% by
2050. Opinions ranged on both the dates and the percentages. In other words, we have
two questions:
- how soon?
- how stringent?
Some ideas expressed:
- use the word "target" rather than "goal"
- don't get locked into the two date model - establish milestones to 2020
- let's not get too hung up on this as we can modify our targets as we go
2) Draft document - Carbon Reduction Project Evaluation Approach
Todd Rhodes presented the document (available on the Yahoo Group site) that he and
Mark Sandeen developed. It was well received by the committee.
Discussion:
- We still need a "narrative" to complement the projects. The list gives the actions; the
narrative tells the story of how community members can use these actions to be the
"heros" of the story.
- The post carbon cities book has ideas that could be incorporated.
- We need to fill out the project list - what we have is minimal at best.
What needs to be ready to propose targets and projects this fall?
project evaluation criteria
project list
project evaluation criteria
narrative and messaging
-We need a separate category of commercial projects
Todd will continue working on the evaluation criteria and project list. Project ideas
should go to the email list or Todd.
We'd like to have a project list ready for discussion at the July meeting.
We will not schedule another public presentation until we're a little further along with the
projects and criteria.
3) Summer meetings. Locations TBD. All are Tuesday.
July 15
August 12
September 9
4) Other business
The Farmers Market has a booth that we can use. Marilyn took an action item to find one
or two dates.
Adaptation: Discussing adaptation as part of our messaging / narrative could be key.
When faced with real examples of the challenges as the climate changes, it could hit
home with people and get them to act.
