Minutes for the February monthly meeting and values discussion meeting were approved.
The meeting focused on the plans for an April 17 public presentation.
We had a discussion about why we are doing this presentation and what we hope will be
the community reaction.
- show we exist
- show that we share the same values
- reach a community accord (why is this issue important ?)
- give people a chance to get a handle on the problem
- lay groundwork, get people ready, start brainstorming
- we want people to be willing to act and help
- we'd like to get more data from households
- establish credibility of the committee (this was added by JJ after the meeting)
A basic layout for the meeting was drawn up:
1) Discuss what brought us here
2) What the committee is doing
3) Data presentation
carbon emissions in Lexington
variability of households
4) Comparisons with other communities
5) Our next steps
establish goals
how we get there
discussion
seed some ideas
Our handout should contain data, sources, assumptions, etc.
We also discussed shortcomings of our data:
- still nothing from Lincoln Labs.
- oil usage - guesses based on averages, data from a few households.
- National Grid (Keyspan) data questions still persist (Charlie is working on this).
- vehicles
- still need to integrate air travel piece
- ridership numbers for MBTA & LEXPRESS
Other things:
- We will invite representatives from NG and NSTAR to the meeting and they can give
us a single slide for us to present. They will not be presenting on their own.
- base year for footprint? We'll go with 2007 for now.
- Where can we get data on the effects of trees?
- Dan and Toby will work on an op -ed for the Lexington Minuteman.
