ACTIVITIES 1973 -74
The Design Advisory Committee has been involved in an advisory capacity to the Lexington
Planning Board reviewing projects submitted to the Board and rendering advice.on special
design or planning problems. The scope of study for committee members included housing
proposals; land acquisition; wetland zoning; central business district parking, sidewalks,
and lighting; regional planning; traffic, highways and public transit; site reconnais-
sance on specific parcels of land; and general standards for roads, sidewalks, and ramps
for curbs. Of major importance was the study requested of the D.A.G. by the Selectmen
and the Planning Board on the Red Line extension through Lexington which explored the
various factors that would have to be considered in such a decision. A number of special
reviews and design recommendations were associated with Board of Appeals petitions and
included the landscape problems at the Burlington Arcade, housing proposed for the Russell
House property, and changes in land use for numerous individual parcels. Members of the
committee also attended public hearings on Planning Board Articles for the Annual Town
Meeting. For a further discussion on activities of the Planning Board see pages 27 -29
of the 1973 Annual Report.
