Enablement Committee Minutes
November 19, 2002
Present: Jennifer Aliber; Barbara Barrows; Victoria Buckley; Chuck Cole; Steve Baran, ADA Coordittatot
Absent: Robert Harris, Chair; Sue Cusack; Dan Murphy
Minutes of 10/15/02: The minutes of 10/1/02 were approved.
Bikes on sidewalk: It was agreed that signage at bikeway exit points leading to the town center should
contain warnings that riding bikes on sidwalks constitutes a violation. Richard Landau should be asked if he
has an action plan.
Handicapped parking diming voting: There was agreement that more handicapped parking should be made
available at the Clarke School and at the Fire Department.
Visitors' Center: Steve Baran handicapped accessible modifications to be implemented by April in the
Visitors' Center bathroomsand front entrance.
Capital Expenditures Committee meeting: It was agreed that Jennifer Aliber would present ADA five -year
plan with an assist from Victoria Buckley.
Complaint form : It was understood that the Lexington Town Disability Complaint Porto was to be filed by
an individual with a complaint. It was further agreed that Steve Frederickson would be invited to a
forthcoming meeting of the Enablement Committee to discuss the part that granting permits played in
modified renovations such as at Dunkin' Donuts on Waltham St.
Liberty Bus : The Enablement Committee has not heard from Masha Trabler regarding Liberty Bus
accessibility. See letter to Miss Traber of Octoer 1, 2002 with copies to Joel Beman, Chair, Tourism
Committee, and Heather Sweeney, Director, Social Services Department. Chuck Cole volunteered to call
Masha Traber.
Letter to.lay Kaufman: Chuck Cole, with an assist from Barbara Barrows, will follow up on letter to Jay
Kaufinan, State Representative, recommending 40B legislation be amended to make accessibility
mandatory. See letter to Jay Kaufman dated October 27, 2002.
School construction: Victoria Bucldcy will follow through with Tony Close of the School Contrnittee re
school construction in the case where Robert Harris had made recommendations on the plans for a specific
school.
Videotaping of historic buildings : Chuck Cole reported that he is visiting historic building sites and had
tanked with DeWolfe realtors and John Ott of the National Heritage Museum re feasibility of making the
r videotape.
tl4et State RFP : Chuck Cole volunteered to investigate re handicap accessibility.

r ADA training in the schools : Victoria Buckley has been pursuing disability sensitivity trainings
