Enablement Committee

1. Richard Landau reviewed his concerns about traffic light at corner of Waltham
Street and Mass. Ave.
2. Front stoop at main entrance to Town Hall not in compliance. Should there be
window in door?
Transitional plan - Bill Hadley, DPW Director, said that this was his first time
coming to Enablement Committee, was interested in working with cormmittee in a
positive way. Committee members revealed some of their concerns — visibility of
cross walks and progress made on cross walks (see list of 280 cross walks from
consultant). Bill Hadley was given 1994 consultant report on transitional plan. He
said he would study what was done, what had to be done in the future and how to
prioritize.
Visitors' Center — Bill Hadley said that $102,000 in funding was being put aside
from this year's DPW budget to make Visitors' Center bathrooms and ramps
ADA- compliant.
Minor repairs — Committee members asked Bill Hadley what avenues were open
for relatively minor repairs. He replied that some monies could be found for such
minor items.
Curb cuts -- Sue Cusack asked how future curb cuts might be done according to an
agreed -upon standard. Steve Baran said he would find out what is the state of the
art technology on curb cuts and share this with DPW
Advance planning — the Committee members emphasized the importance of being
involved in advance on curb cuts and roadwork It was agreed there should be a
partnership in looking at plans. Bill stressed the importance of involving
stakeholders.
8. Professional development — question was raised as to what would be the best way
to incorporate a training package into professional training.
9. Membership — Rick Safford was seen as having potential for joining the
committee. He is waiting to get a lighter wheelchair. Others seen as possibly
being interested included Joaime Fray, Michael Martignetti, and Roz Gittleman,
