Subject: School Improvement Goals Revisions /Omissions
Lynne:
After our meeting it haunted me that there were elements missing in the
2004 -5 School Improvement plan reviewed at todays meeting. I looked at the
notes of the June '04 Meeting and the goals summarized
at that meeting which were given to individuals to flesh out. (At the time
we did not include the literacy work being done with the new reading
program, which you've incorporated in your current draft). I think
somewhere the subcommittees that wrote the other sections got lost or
scrambled and I am trying to sort it out.
FROM THE JUNE MEETING:
We reviewed the first drafts of the 2004 -5 School Improvement Plan. The
topics, which were drawn from the adult school wide survey results include
the following goals::
1- Improve differenciated instruction in Math and Reading (to assist
children at both ends of the spectrum, accelerated and struggling learners)
THIS DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION GOAL IS WHAT YOU LISTED AS CELEBRATING
DIVERSITY.(SEE BELOW) THE ONLY EDIT MISSING IS THE ADDITIONAL PHRASE
"Contine and review Affinity Groups and Mentoring" to honor the closing the
gap work that is ongoing to assist our Roston students.
2- Improve communication and educate parents regarding the curriculum: NO
ONE EVER DEVELOPED THIS.
3- Improve parent knowledge of school protocols and procedures. This
includes continuing to support volunteerism, creating a volunteerism
handbook, volunteer training, coordinating a school wide calendar, and
creating a school wide handbook. THIS IS IN YOUR VERSION.
4- Improve parent and teacher knowledge of normal and abnormal child
development. JENNIFER HERTZEL WROTE THIS OUT - I'LL ASK HER TO FORWARD IT TO
YOU..
5- Improve communication and educate the entire school community to better
understand special education and the value of inclusive learning
environment. THIS WAS TO BE THE CELEBRATING DIVERSITY SECTION: SPECIAL
EDUCATION AND LEARNING STYLES: I have attached it and also pasted it below:

community.
Promote sensitivity and acceptance of all those students who learn
differently.

of the individual families involved.

Provide general information to all staff about the Intensive Learning
Program. Provide specific information/teaching strategies to classroom
teachers who have ILP students in their class.

Work with the Hastings Anti -Bias Committee to include a focus on students
with special education needs.
Develop /support staff development which fosters appreciation of varied
