Nov 4 Weds Dec 8 Thurs Jan. 13 Weds Feb 9 Thurs March 10 Wed April 13 Thurs. May 12 Weds June 8 3- We reviewed the school improvement goals for this year that Lynne drafted from our work last year. Somehow two goals were missing from the report and one was sent to Lynne after the meeting. An additional goal of literacy was added to reflect the new reading anthology that has been adopted system wide. There has been an deadline extension hopefully allowing for correction. 4- Lynne handed out a draft of the volunteer handbook to review. This work is the outgrowth of a working committee jointly run by the PTA and School Council. Hopefully a parent handbook will be written this year by a similar process to help new families orient to school and make expectations and protocols more explicit. Target date for completion would be May 2005. Both handbooks need to be available on the website. 5- We talked about potential changes in school morning drop off and pick up procedures to satisfy the fire dept. and disaster management concerns, and asked Lynne to use one of us as a sounding board before she sends out her letter. (Two parents offered to read it for diplomacy). The proposal at pickup would have parents wait for their children in a designated waiting 11/5/2004 Page 2 of 2 place rather than in the school corridors which is causing unsafe crowding in some areas, and alter morning routines to have children lining up nearer to the doors that they enter after the 8:30 am whistle blows. We discussed alternatives to drop off and pickup and agreed to solicit more parent input. 6- Lynne shared a draft brochure made by Susan Campbell to describe Special Education services at Hastings as a beginning point to school goal of helping the community understand more about Special Ed in general and the ILP (Intensive Learning Program) in particular. Meeting adjourned until November 4 at 3:30, in Lynne's office 11/5/2004
