1 Follow-up/carryovers form September - Student Participation
Becky Rushford reported that Eliza Duncan, LHS student, is still interested in
being a Student Representative on the Youth Services Council However,
she plays soccer for LHS and cannot attend Council meetings until
November Becky also reported that Jennifer Wolfum has indicated that she
will speak with other students about joining the council and will speak with
Superintendent Ash
2 Youth Services Coordinator's Update
A. Becky Rushford reported on work she and Kelly have been doing to
promote Intergenerational Programming They hope to incorporate
High School Students in a "Friend-to-Friend Program" The program
will allow students to establish relationships with seniors in the
community and earn Community Service credits in the process Norm
Cohen reviewed the program as it now exists for the Council members,
and Becky Rushford explained that although there are only two
students now involved, she and Kelly hope that with more publicity it
will continue to grow
B Becky Rushford reported that the Book Club response has been very
good There are now 13 people interested in participating Currently
there is one 90 minute meeting scheduled, but she hopes that the
Book Club will become an ongoing program meeting monthly
C Becky Rushford and Jane Franks are setting up a meeting of the
Private School Network. This is a way for Private Schools in
Lexington to connect with the community and each other The meeting
will take place at Lexington Montessori on November 2nd at 4 00 p m
The topic for this meeting will be training the Private School staffs on
Mandated Reporting protocols Becky Rushford and Christina
DeMambro, Lexington Police officer, will facilitate the meeting Bill
Clark asked if training on this topic could be run for members of the
Lexington clergy, or if they would be able to attend the meeting on
November 2nd
3 Tasks and Action
Sheila Butts and Becky Rushford updated the Council on the status of the
Middle School Initiative The next Middle School Early Release Day
program will be January 12, 2006 Students participating will go to the
Nashoba Valley Ski Area for an afternoon of snow tubing
The Forum for Youth Meeting will be held on October 20, 2005 The forum is
a means for private therapists and psychiatrists in the community to network
and talk about youth needs, concerns, connections and/or lack of connections
to the schools The goal of the forums is to discuss issues in four areas
advocacy for youth and families, clinical services, education and consultation
4. Next Steps
Becky Rushford asked that Council members continue to brainstorm and
think about the direction the Council should go in One of the topics for the
next meeting will be to identify what the next steps should be
