HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-10-30-TOUR2-Antony-minTourism Committee Meeting Antony Working Grq, p October 30, 2008, 4P1VI Town Office Building, Room 111 Present: Dawn McKenna, John Patrick. Absent: Susan Bennett, Maiy Jo Bohai t, Kerry Brandin, Bebe Fallick, Paul O'Shaughnessy, John Ott, Lou Sideris Staff: Masha Traber. Selectmen Liaison Peter Kelley Guests: Tony Galaitsis, Barbara Hutsizer, Bud & Shirley Frawley, Elsa Sullivan The Selectmen have authorized the Tourism Committee to plan for a 10 year reunion with our Sister City of Antony, France. Previous participants that could be identified were invited to attend an initial planning meeting. There is interest from our colleagues in Antony for this reunion as well. The previous exchange committee was never dissolved. Cerise Jalelian has leftover funds from the previous exchange and will turn them over to the Town for placement in a Selectmen's Sister City gift account. The group had no objection to the Town holding the funds for the Sister City activities. It was agreed that if the Minutemen are interested in participating, we should have a reunion. The Frawleys will put a letter in the paper asking for interest. Dawn will contact the Minuteman to see if there is sufficient interest. It was suggested that we follow the request of Antony officials and plan our visit there for September of 2009 (during 9/11 -9/13 festival), and then ask them what time of year they would prefer to come to Lexington, October 2009, April 2010, or May 2010. The group concurred that as part of the time in Lexington we should surprise the Antony delegation by naming something after Antony. We all need to work to figure out an appropriate location for this honor. Jolm Patrick agreed to be part of a small 2 -3 person delegation from Lexington on behalf of the Tourism Committee to go to Antony and plan the trip in the next 1 -3 months. The Antony website needs to be updated. Dawn will look into setting up an email for LASCAQtourlexin ton.us and ask Kerry if we can create an LASCA Antony page on the website. We will schedule another meeting when we have more information. Respectfully submitted by Dawn McKenna
