Discussion centered on the following topics:
• Upon motion duly made and seconded the minutes of October 17, 2005,
November 27, 2006 and January 8, 2007 were unanimously approved.
• The committee should take a position on Town Meeting Articles as listed in the
Agenda. A review and discussion of each article occurred and members were
asked to support the articles that support the activities of the Tourism Committee.
• Signs — there are 314 signs in the environs of Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington
Center. The Signage coordination effort proposes to remove approximately half
of these signs in support of simplification and removing redundancy. This will go
before the Board of Selectmen on February 26 and be a topic at the March 1 HDC
meeting.
• Information booth on Route 128/95 — Discussion centered on the need to restore
this booth. It is a missed opportunity for the Town. There is a possible
opportunity to install computer display kiosks to allow both manned and
unmanned public use. Some facility could also be installed inside the restaurant.
The committee expressed general support for a restored booth.
• Economic Development Officer — The intent is to develop the tax base. Tourism
is not presently part of the charge, so job description may need expansion. Dawn
is in communication with Carl Valente (Town Manager).
Motion: Liberty Ride operations from 10:30 to 4:30, 7 days from May 26 to October 21,
2007, using the existing route, excepting Lexington Depot Square stop will be on
demand. The motion was seconded and passed.
Motion: To progressively replace faded Liberty Ride signs. Seconded and passed.
Motion: To purchase a 2 nd cell phone for Liberty Ride, in support of urgent or emergency
communications. Seconded and passed.
Discussion: Liberty Ride ticket price should remain unchanged for 2007, and in future
will be based on success a possible package with Houses and museums.
Motion: To enter executive session for the purpose of salary negotiations at 5:50 pm. by
role call vote.
