HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-11-05-TOUR2-minTourism Committee Meeting Monday, November 5, 2007- 4 p.m. Room 111, Town Hall Present: Members: Mary Jo Bohart, Kerry Brandin, Richard Canale, Bebe Fallick, Dawn McKenna (Chair), John Ott Staff. Masha Traber John Ott, National Heritage Museum, listed the current and upcoming exhibits: Raymond Loewy Design, Remember Me with highlights from the collections, and the Polaroid Exhibit. The question of Museum admission fees is on hold. Mary Jo Bohart mentioned that Nov. 30 (4 to 9 p.m.) is the date for the Holiday Lighting and Festivities. Kerry Brandin stated that all of the signage should be completed by February. Dawn will contact Christopher Bing regarding the signs for the Battle Green. The 2007 Historical Attractions Information Chart was circulated for updates on open dates, days open and hours, admission fees, group rates. The Committee contact information sheet was circulated for updates. All current members have been reappointed for the upcoming term. Mention was made of the computer walking tour with virtual tours of a number of destinations. Jerry Michelson is continuing the effort. Liberty Ride: The report for fiscal year 2008 was distributed, indicating total ridership, income, and expenses. The trolley is available off - season (for a four hour period $525. with a guide, $320. without). Motion was made and seconded: That the Liberty Ride will operate on the Saturday and Sunday leading to Patriots Day. Passed by unanimous vote. Masha Traber hosted a year end dinner for the guides who will compile a list of suggestions for the next season. Among these are concerns for a different type of microphone. The walk up to the Belfry needs to be repaired and maintained. Dawn McKenna will approach Hank Manz with the suggestion that it might be an Eagle Scout project. The question of discrete or combined tickets for the Liberty Ride and to sites charging admission was discussed and will need continuing input. Grant applications: Mary Jenkins, Massachusetts Cultural Council, will be invited to the next meeting, for exploration of possibilities for future projects. Bebe Fallick referred to articles on tourism in the Boston Globe (Boston as a destination is more work than fun) and Sunset Magazine (significant downturn in number of visitors to the western flagship national parks).
