HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-05-06-HDC-Min Town of Lexington Historic Districts Commission MINUTES OF May 6, 2010 Commissioners present: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Alfonso Hernandez, Daniel Griffin and Robert Warshawer Associate Commissioners present: Marilyn Fenollosa, Department Clerk: Amy Casparius Absent Commissioner: Paul Ross, and Associate Commissioners, Carl Oldenburg, Scott Kyle and Barbara Feldman PETITIONS HEARD: FORMAL HEARINGS 6 Meriam Street, map 56 lot 62 - David Archambault, Network Building & Consulting, LLC, received approval by a vote of 5-0 for the addition of two vents on the rear of the steeple, and removal of an Air Conditioning Condenser at the front of the building. Pictures of the steeple showing what the vents would look like, and Building elevations, were presented. Certificate No. 2010C-19 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Alfonso Hernandez, Daniel Griffin, and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioner Marilyn Fenollosa 1749 Massachusetts Avenue, map 48 lot 99- Janice Zazinski, representing Peet’s Coffee & Tea, received approval by a vote of 5-0 for two tables with 3 chairs each to be set out and taken in daily in front of Peet’s Coffee. Photographs of the location and the tables were presented. Certificate No. 2010C-20 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Alfonso Hernandez, Daniel Griffin, and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioner Marilyn Fenollosa 10 Bedford Street, map 56 lot 3-William and Janet Erickson received approval by a vote of 5-0 for exterior color change. The Erickson’s presented two similar paint colors. They are going to put samples on the house to determine the color they prefer. Certificate No. 2010C-21 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Alfonso Hernandez, Daniel Griffin, and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioner Marilyn Fenollosa 9 Brigham Road, map 56 lot 214- Judith and David Craver, withdrew their request without predjust for a playset. 1605 Massachusetts Avenue, map 48 lot 169 - Patrick Goddard, Lexington Public Facilities, requested the hearing for exterior lighting be continued until June 2010. 16 Belfrey Terrace, map 49 lot 156A – William Hubner, Representing, Anne and Omar Khudari, received approval by a vote of 5-0 to make changes to the eve’s and roof line. Plans dated April 28, 2010 which includes elevations; 3D sketch, Details of roof canopy, eve details & gutter profile were presented. Certificate No. 2010C-22 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Alfonso Hernandez, Daniel Griffin, and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioner Marilyn Fenollosa 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 Minutes of May 6, 2010 FORMAL HEARINGS CONT. 870 Massachusetts Avenue, map 22 lot 75 – Scott Herlihy, received approval by a vote of 5-0 to tear down and rebuild two chimneys in kind and repoint one chimney with a new cap. Pictures of existing chimney’s and interior water damage and the estimate from the contractor were presented. Certificate No. 2010C-23 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Alfonso Hernandez, Daniel Griffin, and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioner Marilyn Fenollosa 46 Bedford Street, map 57 lot 14A - Kevin Duggan Metro Sign & Awning, representing, Danversbank, received approval by a vote of 5-0 for signage. The commissioners approved the without signage plan internal illumination. The building owner has put together and the commission approved a lighting package for the entire building that has external lighting for each sign area. Detailed drawings of signs, elevations of front and drive thru sides were presented. Mr. Duggan will submit to the HDC clerk revised plans without internal illumination. Certificate No. 2010C-24 Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Alfonso Hernandez, Daniel Griffin, and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioner Marilyn Fenollosa 35 Hancock Street, map 56 lot 46 – Patrick Carroll, presented site plans and building plans showing how the house from 1991-1993 Massachusetts Avenue would look on this site. Ian Adamson 33 Hancock Street supports the project, and has a few suggestions for the plans which he will discuss with Mr. Carroll. Mrs. Janice Camp 37 Hancock Street is behind the project as long as the right of way and parking issue can be resolved. Mr. Carroll is going before the Board of Appeals, because the porch will be within the front set back. Chairman Joseph Welch will write a letter to the Board of Appeals showing the Commissions’ support for the project. This Hearing is continued until the Board of Appeals decision is made. Associate Commissioner Marilyn Fenollosa recused herself from this hearing. 1991-1993 Massachusetts Avenue, map 57 lot 9B- Patrick Carroll, presented demolishing the newer additions and moving the main block of the house to 35 Hancock Street. Commissioner Daniel Griffin asked what would happen to the foundation hole. Mr. Carroll stated that he is under agreement with the Church that the foundation would be removed; hole compacted with loam and seeded for Grass. The commission wants Mr. Carroll to bring drawing showing what parts of the home are being removed and what is moving. This hearing is continued. CONTINUED HEARINGS 16 Tavern Lane, map 39 lot 7 - Paul Mahoney, representing Anthony Busa, received approval by a vote of 5-0 for paint color, changing rear French doors to double hung windows, new skylight, making the kitchen windows tighter, adding a door to the rear of the garage, and adding a finial on top of the cupola. Mr. Mahoney presented updated plans, and two paint color schemes. They are going to put paint samples on the house to determine which scheme they and the Commission prefer. Voting Commissioners were: Chairman, Joseph Welch, Alfonso Hernandez, Daniel Griffin, and Robert Warshawer and Associate Commissioner Marilyn Fenollosa 1625 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE • LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS 02420 Minutes of May 6, 2010 INFORMALS 505 Massachusetts Avenue Unit # 9: 1 map 48 lot 275 unit 9 - Joseph Walsh, presented plans to rebuild rear deck using Azeck decking and railing caps along with Cedar Balusters. The deck will be painted to match the house. Mr. Walsh is ready for a formal hearing 26 Hancock Street , map 56 lot 23 - Kim Bradshaw, presented plans for new paint color scheme and new windows. The commission recommended that they look into restoring the existing windows rather than replacing. When they are ready for their color change they need to come for an unadvertised formal approval. 5 Hancock Avenue , map 56 lot 35 - Sheila Watson, representing prospective buyers presented new windows and the feasibility of an addition. The commission recommended restoring the windows rather than replacing them, particularly the front windows. In regards to an addition, the commission stated that there would have to be formal approval but they do not see a problem. 611 Massachusetts Avenue , map 21 lot 2 - Attorney Tom Fenn, representing, James Wilson presented the idea of tearing down the house, and leaving the lot empty. The commission feels this house is a big part of the neighborhood, has good bones and could be repaired. Mr. Wilson will look into other options.
