Meeting Began:
7:45 a.m.
The minutes from last month’s meeting were approved.
FALL/WINTER FOCUS GROUPS:
A focus group with the Chinese American Association of
stth
Lexington (CAAL) will be held on December 1 or 8 in the Learning Center at Cary Memorial
Library; Peter Enrich, Dan Krupka, and Jane Warren will facilitate and record the focus group.
A focus group of 2009 graduates of the Lexington Citizens’ Academy will be held December
th
14 at the Learning Center in Cary Memorial Library; Chuck Benson, Janice Frascatore, and
Alan Wrigley will facilitate and record the focus group. A focus group with Indian Americans of
Lexington (IAL) will be scheduled during the first two weeks of January.
With regard to the next set of focus groups to be scheduled, Fernando will contact the Lexington
Interfaith Clergy Association and request that they participate themselves or identify a member
of their congregation to participate; Candy will provide contact information. Janice will reach
out to the Chamber of Commerce, and Alan will reach out to the Rotary Club. In each case,
Fernando will send a letter to the leader(s) of the group, and the respective 2020 Committee
member will follow up thereafter.
There was consensus that discussion in the focus groups should begin with the participants’
current feelings toward and vision of Lexington. At the end of the meeting, the participants’
ideas can be compared to the 27 + 4 goal statements the Committee created in 2000. Each person
will be given ten stickers and asked to identify his/her top goals from the original list.
YOUTH STRESS:
Anne Redmon suggested that the Committee consider taking up the issue of
youth stress. Committee members agreed that this is a long-term community issue and not just a
responsibility of the schools. The suggestion was made that the focus groups currently underway
may help pinpoint the aspects of this issue that the Committee can pursue further.
DEMOGRAPHIC CHANGE TF FOLLOWUP:
Fernando congratulated Dan and Marian on
an excellent presentation at the LWV Friday First Forum, and noted that a large audience was
present. Richard Canale confirmed that there is currently no data project underway with the
MAPC and that the Planning Board’s work agenda over the next year is full. He will follow up
to see if MAPC will help pursue an updated forecast of the senior population in Lexington at a
later date, once a problem has been clearly identified and Town staff are available to assist with
the project.
