HomeMy WebLinkAbout2011-05-24-CCTF-min Minutes of the Orientation Meeting for the Community Center Task Force May 24, 2011, Ellen Stone Room of Cary Hall Attending Members Steering Committee Mary Ellen Alessandro Nancy Adler Elizabeth Barnett Pam Hoffman Betty Borghesani Jane Trudeau Sophia Ho Laura Hussong, Chair Florence Koplow Lisah Rhodes John Ruffing Tim Dugan NOTE The Selectmen appointed the above-named members to the Task Force, but since all the paperwork required to finalize the process had not yet been completed, no votes were taken However, the meeting time, place and agenda were posted in accordance with the Open Meeting law Attached to the Minutes are the Agenda, Charge, and list of Committee Members Welcome Jane Trudeau, Nancy Adler, and Pam Hoffman • An idea whose time has come • The concept on integrating programs that serve both old and young • Who are the stakeholders? • What are their needs? • What facilities are needed to meet those needs? • Selectmen voted unanimously to create the Task Force • Committee was carefully chosen not only to represent a broad segment of the community, but also for the ability of its individual members to work well as a team • We are creating a concept NOT a building • Is there a community consensus as to the need? Introduction all members Each member introduced himself or herself and described his or her participation in community affairs Interests and experience ranged from professional to volunteer work with youth, Lexington Education Foundation, Cary Library, the Senior Center, Science Fair, and the PTO Service for all members included much work on many committees The Charge Pam Hoffman The Charge was reviewed and explained The Committee is charged with reporting to the Selectmen on the concept of a Lexington Community Center using • existing data • focus groups • individual interviews • observing practices in other communities • attending and participating in the LWV September convocation on community centers co-sponsored by the League, the Recreation Department, Council on Aging, and Stand for Children Concerns voiced by members • "Stuck in the Weeds" rather than helicopter view • Staying focused • "Not reinvent the wheel"--seek out existing data and individuals involved in related studies Work Plan and Schedule • Gather data--May-July • Staff data • Visit existing centers • Previous related studies • Analyze data—August-October • Create report—November-January Laura will send out a "Doodle" to find convenient times for future meetings Respectfully submitted, Jane Trudeau
