Minutes of Site Based Council Meeting
June 10, 2011
Present: Meg Colella, Naomi Priver, Jill O’Reilly, Michele Welch, Lisa Diamant,
Lucia Gates, Ruth Litchfield, Sean Osborne, Brigitte Steines
Meg updated the progress of the renovation plans. She had a large map
with the proposed changes to the offices, classrooms, storage spaces, and
instructional rooms. Some of the improvements will be a more secure entry way,
more storage spaces, a teachers’ room with a workspace provided, an art room
with an enclosure for the kiln and some more rooms for small group instruction.
There will be additional classrooms added to address increasing enrollment.
Increased light from skylights has been discussed for interior classrooms.
Window discussion is ongoing.
The Permanent Building Committee had a meeting last night to see the
plans which Mary Anton presented.
Time table for this process has to be approved in March 2012 and the
bidding process should begin earlier. If all is approved, during April 2012
vacation work may begin in the boiler room. The phasing plan for the project will
be done before construction begins. The entire project is slated to take two
years.
Brigitte voiced concerns about the entry way being inviting and the outside
of the entry way should be attractive and welcoming.
Throughout the construction, the air quality will be tested.
Information for parents will be available on Field Day and a table will be
set up and will have the map and handouts. Parents will be needed to get the
information out to voters.
Meg said that a committee will be needed to look at parking issues,
bus turn arounds, and staging area for the construction vehicles and equipment.
The next steps are to have the architects finalize the plans, do the
phasing schedule, and then present the information to the Permanent Building
Committee.
Respectfully submitted,
Lisa Diamant
