younger students and student cookbooks from many cultures.

3.Co-Chair for Next Year
Suzanne Cherenson has been reinforced as next year’s (2011-
2012) Harrington School Council’s co-chair.
4.School Representatives for 2011-2012
Five members need to be recruited for next year’s School
Council. Two parent representatives and three school staff
representatives are needed. The positions were listed in the
Harrington Herald. Elaine will also list the positions in
listserv. Suzanne will put a small poster at the green table at
the Harrington School Fair. Suggestions were made as to
how to recruit new members. Onesuggestion was to
personally recruit new members. Also, if you have served in
the past on the Council, you may opt to serve again.
5.Other Topics
Educating parents about the benchmarks
Some ideas on how to provide this are:
A.Hold parent workshops to teach parents math games
and math language.
B. Produce short podcasts to present tutorials on big ideas in
different academic areas.
For example- Explain reading prompts and strategies
parents can use to help their children develop reading
skills.
C. Explain homework expectations such as determined
time allotments for each grade, value and purpose of
homework, and what type of homework help you should
provide to your child. It was noted that these policies are
explained in the handbook.
D. Create an online monkey survey to determine what parents
already know and what they want to find out about to help
plan these activities.
Next meeting is June 14, 2011.
