Lexington Tree Committee Minutes
May 12, 2011
A meeting of the Lexington Tree committee was held on May 12, 2011 at the Samuel
Hadley Public Service Building, Room 125.
Members Present: John Frey (Chair) Nell Walker, Karen Longeteig, Anne Senning,
David Pinsonneault ( DPW Operations Manager) Deb Mauger (Selectman’s
Representative, Jim Wood
Tree Warden David Pinsonneault’s report:
Total calls: 746 Total closed 649
Total to plant: 2267 Total planted 1584
Total to remove: 942 Total removed 731
Since 08/04/08, a total of 3234 in permitted tree diameter was removed and a total of
$32,340 transferred to the General Fund.
Magnolias came in Weds May 10, 2011. Will plant on May 13, 2011. DPW will plant,
Jim Wood will participate. Chuck Walton & Anne Senning have been going out looking
for new planting sites.
Dave Pinsonneault said that the outplanting of Tree Nursery trees ( 53 Scheduled for
Outplanting) Should begin May 26, 2011.
Open status- 1. number of tree planting locations identified to date?
2. number of tree planting sites digsafe approved?
Nell Walker said that tags have been placed on all newly planted 2011 nursery trees. All
trees in the nursery scheduled for outplanting have been tagged.
Dave Pinsonneault will give his tree lecture again at the East Lexington Community
Association (ECLA) annual meeting on May 24, 2011 at 7:30 PM
Deleted agenda item 2e 2 new commemorative trees proposed in E. Lex(J. Barry & Gene
B.)
Jean Krieger’s tree died, will be replaced with another Scarlet Oak
Status of 42 Peacock Farm Road Pine trees-These are not Town trees, they plan to replant
with 6 pine trees.
Joel Custance DPW, has joined the Board of Massachusetts Tree Association, as an
additional effort.
Apparently on Conservation land, a notice of intent for mowing is required. Jim Wood
will contact Karen Mullen to discuss what is needed. A recommendation was made to
cover Garlic Mustard with Landscape Cloth.
Anne Senning recommended that the Tree Nursery & Inventory should wait until we
complete the outplanting. We agreed that this was a good idea.
The Tree Committee discussed Tree Nursery Outplanting and concluded that our goal
should be outplanting at two years, but no later than 3 years.

Off berm planting-Jewel Kuljian will lead this program
Friends of Trees Commemorative tree issues
Websites-Update status and identifying what other links need to be updated
There was no remote participation. The meeting was not recorded
