HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-09-16-TCC-min Minutes Town Celebrations Committee September 16, 2010 Ellen Stone Room, Cary Hall Members present Suzie Barry, Dick Crogan, Linda Dixon, Julie Miller, Sandy Podgorski, Jim Shaw, Dave Taylor and Bob Tracey Members not present Mary Gillespie, Jo-Anne Granger, Paul Jenkins, Sondra Lucente, Bill Mix, Henry Murphy, Charlie Price and John Rossi Business  The meeting was called to order by Suzie Barry at 7:35 pm.  Approval of the May 26, 2010 minutes was tabled until the next meeting.  There are three new committee members -- Dick Crogan, Linda Dixon and David Taylor – with a possibility of one other.  Elections were tabled until the next meeting.  Suzie asked the Selectmen to increase the committee membership by two, which would raise the voting members from nine to eleven.  Selectman Peter Kelley is this year’s liaison to the Town Celebrations Committee.  Committee meetings will be held in the Ellen Stone room through December 2010.  The Colonial Times will have two publications prior to veterans’ day in order to publicize the essay contest.  Committee liaison assignments Schools – Mary Gillespie Boy Scouts – Sandy Podgorski Girl Scouts – Jo-Anne Granger Veterans – Bob Tracey Lions Club – Sondra Lucente DPW/Police/Fire – Dick Crogan Rotary Club – Jim Shaw Youth Commission – Julie Miller Clergy – Linda Dixon Chamber of Commerce/Retailers Association – Suzie Barry Minutemen – Bill Mix, Henry Murphy and Charlie Price th Lexington 300 Anniversary – Julie Miller and Mary Gillespie Veterans’ Day, Thursday, November 11, 2010  Approvals. Suzie is awaiting approval for use of an alternate facility in case of rain.  Invitations. The invitation list will be extended to include John Lucente, president, Lions Club and David Brother, president, Rotary Club.  Clergy. Rabbi Carey Brown, Temple Isaiah, will deliver the invocation and benediction.  Chief Marshal. An invitation has been extended.  Essay contest. Mary Gillespie is contacting the schools. Submitted essays will be read and th decisions made at the November 4 meeting.  Publicity. Essay contest details will appear in The Lexington Minuteman, Colonial Times, a poster in Lexington center and at Lexingtonpatch.com.  Flowers for attending veterans. Sandy Podgorski will write to Wilson Farms asking for a flower donation. Patriots’ Day, Monday, April 18, 2011  This year’s budget is the same as 2009-2010.  Parade invitation letters will be mailed on October 14, 2010.  The Mt. Pleasant Area High School band, Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania would like to march this year. Suzie is looking into the details.  Suzie asked the committee for suggestions on additional invitations to the afternoon parade.  Members were asked to think of and discuss suggestions for chief marshal at the next meeting.  The Town Celebrations Committee and Chamber of Commerce will work together on fund- raising.  Suzie is looking into new name tags and possibly jackets for committee members.  Julie Miller raised the issue of Douglas House residents’ difficulty accessing the reenactment and parade. Lexington 300 (2013) Meeting th  The kick-off meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 7 pm, Cary Hall. Invitations have been sent to all interested groups.  Events will span September 2012 to September 2013, with a substantial event planned for March 30, 2013 (the actual day of the town’s incorporation). th  The 300 is a subcommittee of the Town Celebrations Committee.
