HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-02-17-CANE-min 2009 Minuteman Cane Award Committee Meeting Tuesday, February 17, 2009 2 PM in Town Hall, Room 111 Present were Dot Boggia, Chairman, Charlie Price, Dick Michelson, Barbara Ciampa, Sheldon Spector and Beverly Kelley. Absent were Lodia Parilla, David Williams, Arthur Katz and Marie Hill. Lillian McArthur was also absent but she had previously sent a resignation letter to David Williams. The meeting was called to order at 2:05 PM. The minutes of the meetings in 2008 were approved. All is in place for this year. Applications are available in Theatre Pharmacy, Michelson’s Shoes, The Lexington Minuteman office, the Town Clerk’s office and at the Senior Center. The deadline for applications is Friday, April 3 at 4 PM at the Senior Center. Chris Venier has the cane and when the recipient is chosen it will be taken to Bromac to have a plaque put on. thnd Dot informed us that this year is the 100 anniversary of the Post Cane. It is the 22 year of the Minuteman Cane. The Lexington Historical Society has the original Post Cane and it was thought that we should display it this year at the Depot during the reception. Last year a new tradition was started. A joint reception was held for the recipients of the and White Tricorn Hat the Minuteman Cane. This year the reception will include the recipient(s) of the Youth Award. All three awards are given out at the morning ceremony on the Green on Patriot’s Day which is Monday, April 20 this year. The reception for all three will be at the Depot on Sunday, April 26 at 2 PM. The Lions Club and the FCOA will co-sponsor the event. Since Lillian McArthur has resigned, a replacement is needed. Chris Venier and Leo McSweeney will be considered. Also, Rabbi Lerner, the co-chair of the Interfaith Council, may be asked to recommend someone from the council who might be interested in serving. This will be discussed at our next meeting. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, April 7 at 11 AM in Room 111 . Respectfully Submitted by Beverly Kelley, Secretary February 17, 2009
