Attending: Susan Rockwell, Donna Hooper, Richard Kollen, Van Seasholes,
Mary Gillespie, Eric Carlson
Absent: Jessie Steigerwald, Cindy Savage, Suzie Barry, Denise Dube
The Lexington 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee met at 12 00 p.m., Tuesday,
October 12, 2010, room 111, Town Office Building.

UPDATES
Jane Hundley, K-5 Social Studies Coordinator, Lexington Public Schools, has expressed
interest in membership to the Lexington 300th and is awaiting Board of Selectmen
appointment
1 Corporation Documents—Attorney Alan Wrigley continues to prepare documents
2 Review of September 21st community meeting— subcommittees to be identified.
a. Eric Carlson encouraged inclusion of people who can expect to participate in a
celebration in 50 years time— and need to include the young people
3 Responses to Mailings—
a. Lexington Pops Chorus—Commissioning a composition and plans concerts
for Jan. 18 & 19, 2013
b Discussion on receiving additional proposals—how to approval and evaluation
proposals received and from whom might they be sought
4 Logo Competition—
a. Dick Kollen has contacted Sean Hagan, K-12 Coordinator, Fine Arts
Department, Lexington Public Schools, and will formalize the request for the
competition to be handled by the Fine Arts Department
b Eric Carlson mentioned the elimination of the minuteman figure from the
'town seal' as was original seal — farmer in colonial clothing, not the
battle/statue
c Mary Gillespie reminded all we must reach out to home-schooled youth and
others not at Lexington High School.
d. Jessie Steigerwald suggested `Facebook' as mechanism for communicating.
e Logo Competition Flyer and Outreach to Colonial Times, Lexington
Minuteman and Boston Globe NW, and Lex Media cable TV needs to be
made Dick Kollen will begin drafting flyer for all to review
f Web Site Management —Van Seasholes suggested link from current web site
(on municipal server) be made to the Lexington Public Schools web site

g. Email Listserve—Donna Hooper explained she will pursue the setup of an
email listserve through web site for all interested in Lexington 300th
Anniversary Celebration to subscribe and for use by Committee to get the
word out
5 Organizational Structure/Subcommittees
Discussion on potentially important subcommittees included
a. Time Capsule & Permanent Memorial
b Events & Management
c Communication
d. Incorporation Weekend, Kick-off& Finale
e Budget
f Publicity & Marketing
g. Fundraising
Jessie Steigerwald will prepare a flow-chart of proposed Committee structure &
subcommittees
Eric Carlson encouraged we invite a Freshman/Sophomore to become a member of the
Lexington 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee
6 Followup —
a. As we are charged to pull the community together, must target neighborhood,
ethnic, religious groups
i. What have been the role of churches/religious groups in Lexington
Sue Rockwell will outreach to Lexington Clergy Association.
ii. Indian-American community & other ethnic communities
7 Budgets—
a. FY2012 request is due shortly—
i. $2,000 appropriated for FY2011
ii. FY2012 — marketing, fundraising, town-wide mailing ($1,500)
1 Motion to request $6,000 for FY2012 —Unanimously Adopted.
8 Future meeting dates Tuesday, November 16, December 21, January 18th at Noon.
