HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-09-21-LEX300-min Lexington 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building Meeting Minutes September 21, 2010 Attending: Susan Rockwell, Donna Hooper, Richard Kollen, Van Seasholes, Denise Dube, Suzie Barry, Cindy Savage Absent: Jessie Steigerwald, The Lexington 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee met at 7 00 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2010, to receive public input on celebrating the 300th Anniversary of the Incorporation of the town of Lexington. Approximately 25 persons representing community organizations, public boards and committees, and municipal government were in attendance Lexington 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee Chairperson Sue Rockwell offered welcoming comments, introduced Committee members, and provided a brief overview of purpose of Committee and the evening's gathering Committee member Richard Kollen provided a video presentation of highlights and key events in Lexington's 300 year history Following Mr Kollen's presentation comments and suggestions for celebrating the 300th Anniversary of Lexington's incorporation were invited from those in attendance Comments/Suggestions: 1 Master Calendar be created 2 Create email subscription to get information out to those interested, maximize use of web site 3 Avoid conflicting use of facilities (T Morissette) 4 Who will orchestrate the `incorporation weekend'events for March 2013? (S Bennett) 5 Time Capsule - Stanley Abkowitz offered donation through his Burlington, MA company 6 Consider opportunities for grants (Adams Art], economic development beyond Lexington residents [D McKenna] 7 Lexington Education Foundation, Farmers Market & Dance Inn-Trivia Bee normally held for 2012-2-13 LEF fundraising can be designed around questions on the history of Lexington, Annual recital for Dance Inn 8 Cary Library Foundation- Elizabeth Dickenson] - `Lexington Reads'theme for community book reading could be centered around this celebration, Stanley Abkowitz suggested featuring Lexington authors. 9 Lexington Pops- [Sue Austen] January & May performances, commissioning a piece for May concert 10 Hayden Recreation Centre - National Sendoff mid March/April 11 Safe Routes to School/Sidewalks-theme -history of Lexington transportation 12 LWV/Education- Lexington Education Foundation funding a multi-year grant for in-depth curriculum work for Lexington students, web site for teachers [Barbara Manfredi] 13 Lexington Symphony- Composition competition, soliciting compositions from 2 age groups to compose a piece for the celebration [Liz Field] 14 Old-time sports- [Bill Poole] -it would be fun to have an old-time sports event(s) 15 Town Meeting- [Dan Fenn] -reenact the town meeting petitioning the state for incorporation Respectfully Submitted, Donna Hooper, Scribe
