Board of Registrar Meeting of
June 11, 2004 – 9:00 a.m.
Minutes
Chairman Mary Abegg called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.
Present: Mary Abegg, Chairman; Luanna Devenis; Ann Miller; Donna Hooper, Clerk
Election Officer Appointments:
Election officer appointment process and recommendations for officer appointment were discussed. The
Board reviewed the current listing of election officers and discussed eligibilities. Recommendation
received from the Republican Town Committee was reviewed and names of ineligible and/or uninterested
persons were removed. No names of newly interested persons were received from either town committee.
Motion to approve the list of names to be submitted to the Board of Selectmen recommended by

the Board of Registrars for appointment as Election Officers, as amended, was made.
Unanimous vote to approve as amended.
Voter Registrations:
Registrars discussed voter registration activities at Lexington High School political activity and
o
interest of the students.
Donna Hooper provided update on Inactive Voter update process and printing of 2004 Annual
o
Street Listing.

June 8 Proposition 2 ½ override election procedures:

Procedures followed for the June 8 vote were briefly discussed and mention was made of interest
o
in returning to practice of posting election results in the Cary Memorial Building foyer beginning
with the September 2004 State Primary if possible.
Board of Registrars:
Election of Officers -
o
Appreciation was extended to Mary Abegg [D] for her serving as Board of Registrar
Chairman over the past year. Mary expressed her willingness to continue serving over
the upcoming year and sought nominations. Luanna Devenis [R] accepted nomination by
Ann Miller.
After discussion, Luanna Devenis [R] was unanimously voted Chairman.
Assistant Registrar -
o
The appointment of an Assistant Registrar at Lexington High School was discussed.
Ann Miller explained she viewed the Board to be in violation of MGL c.51 §22 by not
having all political parties represented when appointing an Assistant Registrar. Donna
Hooper will check with MA Elections Office. Luanna Devenis will check with
representatives at Lexington High School for possible candidates from the Republican
party.
Donna Hooper moved to appoint George McCormack [U] as Assistant Registrar at
Lexington High School. Motion was seconded and adopted on a vote of 3-1.

Meeting adjourned approximately 9:55 a.m.
