Board of Registrar Meeting of
June 19, 2003 - 4:30 p.m.
Minutes
Chairman Mary Abegg called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
Present: Mary Abegg, Chairman; Luanna Devenis; Ann Miller; Donna Hooper, Clerk
Election officer appointment process and recommendations for officer appointment were
discussed. The Board reviewed the current listing of election officers and added names from
recommendations received from the Town Committees and voted unanimously to remove the
names of persons deemed unqualified to serve as election officers from any recommendation
to be made to the Board of Selectmen, including. C. Jeanne Coates was added to the list of
names recommended for appointment.
Motion to approve the list of names to be submitted to the Board of Selectmen

recommended by the Board of Registrars for appointment as Election Officers, as
amended, was made.
Unanimous vote to approve as amended.
Voter Registrations –
Mary Abegg summarized the positive experience she had at the high school when
o
outreaching to graduating seniors during their senior cookout festivities. Mary
also summarized discussions with George McCormack for future voter
registration outreach initiatives to high school students.
Donna Hooper provided an update on Inactive Voter update process.

June 2 Proposition 2 ½ override election procedures, and uniqueness of one-question ballot
closeout, were reviewed.
Donna Hooper provided overview of Conflict of Interest considerations, including contacts
with the State Ethics Commission.
Assistant Registrar role and appointment was discussed. The Board of Registrars
unanimously voted to appoint the following for the upcoming year:
Marie Hill, Assistant Town Clerk

Diane McKenzie, Town Clerk’s Office – Information Specialist
o
George McCormack, Lexington High School
o
Mary DeSimone, Minuteman Regional Vocational High School
o
Board of Registrars – Election of Officers - Appreciation was extended to Mary Abegg for
her serving as Board of Registrar Chairman over the past year. Nominations were welcomed
for officers for the upcoming year. Mary Abegg was again nominated to serve as Chairman
and unanimously elected. Donna Hooper was unanimously elected to serve as Clerk to the
Board of Registrars.
Meeting adjourned approximately 5:50 p.m.
